What to feed....?

So when I went to get my bird I got this really good "house blend" that they make at the breeder and thats what their birds eat. Well, its 9 dollars a pound and Zupreem is 4 dollars a pound So we got 2 pounds of the house blend to start but Im wondering if I should buy a pound of zupreem...The manager said he has tried it on his conures and they havent really liked it so I dunno :/

I got Maxx weaned off seed and onto Roudybush Crumbles in a couple weeks. The only time he gets seed is in his Birdie Bread.

Both my boys were on full seed diets when I bought them. Lucky for me, when I showed each on their first day home with me, Roudybush nibbles, they fell head over heals for it and we havn't looked back! I was very forunate

They get fruit every morning with Cheerios (cereal lol) and maybe some egg if Im having some. And veggies for dinner (sometimes with chicken or tuna). Basically, they make me eat right lol.

Seeds are for super hard foraging toys and training in my house!

You definitively need to feed your baby what he is used to at the breeder and slowly mix in the new food you want to switch him over or supplement with.
You haven't said what was in the "house blend".

Conures in the wild will feed on seeds among other things. They do need some in their diet, just to keep in mind. Pellets, seeds(sprouts are great!), veggies, nuts, pulses, fruits, grains are all part of a healthy diet.

Puck was on mostly seeds when I got him, but he seems to eat almost anything I put in front of him. I didn't even have to wean him off seeds. I have him on Harrison's organic pellets. They're not the cheapest, but the health of my baby is worth it to me.

What to feed pellets or seeds is heavily debated subject. Pellets is a good maintenance diet but IF the bird is under weight, pellet doesn't help to bring it back up. Extra protein supplement is needed. Im saying this from past experience. So we feed pellets and seeds! But our ekkies and Lory don't get any pellets and minimal seeds for ekkies and no seeds for Lory. They're diet specific birds unlike conures, etc. So a good maintenance diet of a good pellet brand along with some seeds as treats with fruit and veggies would be best.

I'm with Mikey. I feed a pellet/seed/fruit/veg/nut diet on recommendation of my vet. I don't think seeds in themselves are bad, but I think the seed mixes sold as complete foods (or taken to be as such by owners) in stores are bad. Especialy the ones laden with low nutrition fatty seeds like sunflower... Ok in moderation, but not making up 25% of the mix!

Soaked and sprouted seeds are a nice alternative to regular seed as a treat once a bird is on pellets, and nutritionally they are better then dry seeds. When a seed germinates it converts all that fat (which is stored energy) into usable compounds and nutrients for the plant to grow with. Those converted products are much better for our avian friends (and a seed eaten in the wild is more likley to be in a stage of germination then not) then the dry seed itself! It has to be pepared right though so bacteria and yukkies don't grow on it.

He is now fully on Zupreem Harvest Feast!!! It only took him about a week to switch to Harvest Feast has a few safflower seeds and some dried fruit (i dont even know what it is lol) but he likes it The only problem is....the only fresh food hes eaten this week is like a tiny piece of apple :/
