i was on the verge of insanity with those ads alright D: just strange they werent picked up by the scan :/

according to the programs, the media player 1.1 was added yesterday. so that theory could be correct.

scan was clean, but now the ads are 10000 times worse!!!!

The reason your scan didn't pick it up is because, technically it's not a virus. It's known as a PUP(Potentially unwanted program) it acts much like one, but it's not.

Your husband probably got it from installing something. When you install something, it will give you an option of Express install, and custom install. ALWAYS select custom install, there will be check boxes for additional programs that will install, often times there's a PUP. So make sure you know what you're installing.

I used to recommend AVG, but now I don't. I prefer Malwarebytes and Kaspersky for cleaning up systems of infections. When I first started using AVG, it was good, but the last time I used it (and I'm talking the free version), it was crap. I even recommended it to someone that had a virus problem and it worked great for them! And a few years later, they asked the same question again and said they were still using AVG. I felt kind of bad cause I had to tell them to get a different antivirus program!


Glad you were able to figure out what your issue was though and that it was such a simple fix!
