River (RiverSong) --> Blue and Gold Macaw
Hey everyone.
I'm starting to run low on the Zupreem I bought for River when I first brought her home. She had been on the fruit pellet blend when I got her, so I had bought a bag of the fruit blend and the natural pellet and have been combining them. She gets a mixture of those with daily fruits and veggies.
Getting low on the Zupreem, so I'll be ordering more food soon.

I'm wanting to get everyone's opinions on which pellet diet (of course with additional fruits and veggies) is the best for macaws. River is a Blue and Gold.
If there's a thread that already has a bunch of answers please share it with me.
I'm researching different foods right now but there's so many!

SO, thought I'd ask yall here.
Which pellet do you feed your MACs? and why did you choose that brand?

Any and all responses much appreciated!

I feed zupreem to my macs and the reason for it is I've been using zupreem for over 17 years with good results.

My Macaw also gets Zupreem Fruit Blend for his pellets. When I got him, that's what he was eating so I just stuck with it.
Now my Amazon eats Roudybush and her feathers look absolutely beautiful....but can't seem to get the Macaw to eat the Roudybush steadily..

When I got my guy he was fed what looked like wild bird seed and table scraps. So I went to the local petco to get him ANY food other than wild bird seed. I picked up lafebers there, then Harrison's and roudybush from my vet, combined all 3. The only one he would eat was the lafebers.... So lafebers it is.

To me the only good pellet is the one that is eaten. My guy will also eat my Quakers zupreem, I think he likes the difference in size and the dry apply bits that come in it.

My b&g loves it and gets those and a wide selection of fruits, veggies, and bites of our dinner daily.

Maybe order/pick up sample packs and see what your guy likes best?

I feed Harrisons hi potency coarse

Mine get 3 different pellets mixed under Goldenfeast. They get Zupreem Natural, TOPS & some Harrison's.

They all prefer the Zupreem. :)

I feed roudybush medium sized pellets because my fave brand is harrisons but Merlin didnt like it so I went for the second healthiest brand and he loves it!

My conures love Roudybush. I mix both Roudybush and Harrison's with Wesley's chop. One

day it may be Roudybush and the next it will be Harrison's. When I give him Harrison's his

eyes pin and he says "MMMMM YUM YUM". He'll do that with Routybush but not everything

time. I think birds need a little variety like people so that is why he gets both. I like the

fact that Harrison's is organic.

All 5 of my fids eat Zupreem. My vet thought it was an excellent choice when I told him that was my choice.

The breeder I got my bird from uses Hagen, so that's what Ive been using.

My GW likes to make soup with his Harrison's lol

I'll probably order some natural zupreem now since I'm so low and contact manufactures for samples of other pellets. I'd hate to get a big bag of new stuff and her not eat it :-(
But I know She'll eat natural and fruit zupreem. So when I offer her a new pellet it'll be gradual.

Thank you everyone for the input! I appreciate it.

Where do y'all order bird food from? I got from PetSmart online first time. Browsingonline, Dr Foster and Smith is cheaper than PetSmart. Any recommendations for ordering food online?

I got it from wag.com last time and got a pretty darn good deal from ordering from them for the first time. It only count one time but this time when I order, I ordered from mysafebirdstore.com got 10% off and free shipping so it was pretty good still. I order things in bulk since I have a lot of mouth to feed.

When we got Molly, she was being fed peanuts. The only pellets we could get her to eat were Higgins In-Tune. She is also very reluctant to try fresh foods. She will only eat banana if we hold it for her and even then, she only nibbles.

Buford had been eating Zupreme, but he switched over to Higgins (he doesn't eat the green ones). but then, Buford will eat just about anything.

I order from foster & smith.

I also feed zupreeme.

Along with nurtriberries, and a selection of nuts, safflower seeds, fruits and veggies, and pretty much a little of what ever we are eating.

yep...Dr Foster and Smith....free shipping ( on $50 order) and I can't find it cheaper anywhere else....and when you catch it on sale its usually 25% off ( like right now!) which really cant be beat !

I will second roudybush. I've owned the same three birds for 15 years. Been feeding roudybush to my birds for almost 5 years. my birds were on all seed diet for the first 10 years because I did not know any better. They were starting to look very malnourished and emaciated and that's when I decided to educate myself. Ever since switching to roudybush 5 years ago my birds fattened up and have never looked healthier. I do occasionally supplement the roudybush with fresh fruit about once every 3 weeks but it's almost always roudybush.
I used to buy the 25 lb bags from PetSmart but you can get the exact same thing from Amazon with free shipping for almost half the price.
