Befor I was wondering what parrot should I get when I am ready
I kind of like the amazon but what would you recommend
Thanks

I've owned the birds you've listed before. Except the Amazon. As I've never been drawn to Amazons. But you never know I may own one someday.....we can all list all types of birds but its really up to you to choose the bird for you! Good luck!

Read, read, read about different types of birds. Find out their needs as far as cage size, expense to keep, whether you might need to worry about allergies and narrow your choices down.

My dream bird was a Green Wing macaw. But it's cage and play gym would take up a lot of room, and it may have outlived me. I decided on conures. Now I have an amazon as well.

You don't always get the bird you want but the ones you meant to have. My dream birds is Moluccan Cockatoo, Scarlet Macaw, and a Hyacinth Macaw. But I ended up with a B&G and a LSC Too. But I may end up with a Hyacinth eventually along with Moluccan. :) Then its all complete.

My dream bird has always been an Amazon. Not too particular which one, although I do like the Cuba amazons quite a bit, my second choice would be an African Grey and my third choice was a Macaw (Blue & Gold). In my wildest dreams I would never have thought of owning a Senegal or a Eclectus parrot. But it just goes to show that you can't always predict what bird you may wind up with.

I had never given much thought to either Senegal or Eclectus because they aren't that common in my area. I have only seen a couple of each species in my area. But I'm thrilled with them and wouldn't take a dollar and a quarter for either one of them.:32:

I think i'm on hooked on greys for life. Admittedly that comes with little experience with other birds but I love my little guy. I love opening the door to a dancing grey that just wants his neck rubbed.

I really adore macaws and toos but I think they're just too big for me to comfortable own and handle. Personal preference though. :)

What is your lifestyle like, what are you looking for in a bird and what is your budget like for said bird? That would help narrow down a good fit for your lifestyle. As far as good first time birds my list includes: budgies, lineolated parakeets, parrotlets, green cheek conures, black capped conures, cockatiels.

If after reading you know whats perrots you do not wish to have the you have read enought and you can deside what perrot is right for you based on behavior and time you have to spend for the bird. Good luck!

I think it depends a lot on your age and maturity...

You sound very young....

Birds are a lifetime commitment, many living more than 80 years...

Some bird require a lot of attention, while others are very independent. Being independent doesn't mean they need no attention...

You need to research the birds you might be interested in and go from there...

My opinion... I always wanted a cockatoo, until I read some of the stories on here!

I am happy with my cute, snuggly, friendly, lovable, angelic troublemaker, who is occasionally a vicious demon. :)

But I want something amazon size when I do finally get my own place

Yeah, it's funny. I knew I didn't want a too or an amazon. And now I have an amazon and just love him.

Years ago when I made the conure decision, I didn't know yet which conure I wanted. A Nanday chose me, and that's what I got. I don't think I had ever seen one before. I had seen many Suns, Green Checks and even Cherry Heads, but the Nanday was totally new to me. But, she made it very clear that she wanted to go home with me, so she did:) After more research, I wanted a Blue Crown so I got on a waiting list with a breeder, and eventually got one as well. Both are/were wonderful pets and I'm glad I have/had them.

I was always kind of afraid of amazons. But, when the BC died and my Nanday was depressed, I put an ad on CL asking to adopt another bird. I kept being offered amazons. When I saw the YC, I knew I was going to bring him home and now I'm quite the amazon fan.

Well, it seemed over the years that every time I met an amazon it would immediately display. One even kept trying to get me in attack range. The little snot was saying, "Oh, come here, I won't bite you." I knew better, lol! I didn't know if this meant they liked me or hated me. But, I was afraid of them. And they seemed to be the most often discussed bird in behavior books. But, when I met Pete he didn't scare me. He wasn't immediately thrilled with me though. But, after only 2 days here he decided to make friends. He likes to cuddle with me, and so far the only nip I got wasn't much of a bite. He did it the second day he was here and I was in his cage adding new things. He was scared, and I knew he was. And it barely hurt so I was happy about that. There hasn't even been a threat since. He definitely makes me laugh, and is very sweet.
