Pritti (Cherry-Head Conure) -- Fly in Peace my beautiful boy. Forever I'll love you.
Hi. I'm new and just posted a "Hello" message in the New Member area over here, http://www.parrotforums.com/new-mem...ad-conure-talk-hi-im-new-here.html#post164229 .
What do you think about the transparent, plexiglass transport cages vs. the more solid-sided hard or soft transport carriers? When I saw the 100% transparent carriers, the birds looked so "exposed" and un-shielded to me. I thought that it could actually be like a tease to the birds being in a totally "plastic" box that looks like outside, but is really a solid cage + there is not a cozy, dark corner to hide in if the outside environment is bothering or scaring them. I realize I can just cover it with a towel like I could do with his travel cage, but the travel cage is metal with bars really close together, and a solid top and bottom, alond with a short plastic "wall" that goes around the bottom, so he could get in the corner if he wants.
We've been transporting him all these years in his travel cage which is too big and clumsy. It takes up the whole passenger seat. He's about 14" long, head to tail. He enjoys small spaces like snuggle huts and corners. Most of the posts I have read on sites recommend carriers that have a darker inside environment, but then the plexiglass ones are advertised as the "cat's meow", in a manner of speaking. They are so opposite. Pritti's vet is only 20-25 minutes away. I let him out as soon as he gets to the waiting room if it's safe to do so.
What do you think? What do you use?
Thanks.
