Hi, my green cheek is almost 12 years old. I'm growing concerned about feathers on back. They look terrible. Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on?

I’m no expert. I have a 22 year old eclectus and he sometimes goes through a heavy molt. This could be that but I am sure others on here will give you advice better than I can.

Hello and welcome to the Forum! What's your little birdie's name by the way?

I'm not sure what might be happening with those feathers either to be honest. We have had a number of members lately reporting strange behaviours with their birds since the whole COVID-19 quarantine situation came into being, some are reacting in unexpected ways to having their regular routines disrupted. If however nothing has changed in your bird's environment then it may be a good time to have him/her checked out by your avian vet. Feather picking or barbering as you probably know can lead to plucking and there may be a medical cause for it, but unfortunately plucking can be a very complex problem. I've included a link which may give you some more ideas and information...

Thanks for reaching out, and I hope you are able to find some help for your little sweetie!

Hi, and welcome!
For my JoJo, it was me watching late night shows without him! He was taking out his frustration on himself!
After dark, I now use headphones!
