I want to eventually invest in getting a play gym for my sweet little lovebird (and I do want to get another bird sometime, but not sure when), and I was wondering, what was the best play gym that you have ever gotten for a small bird? I really want something that will last and I'm not sure of the quality of the stuff I'm seeing at the pet stores.

There is a local pet store that is a little drive's away but they had some cool looking playgyms and great looking cages with playgyms on top of them for larger parrots (unfortunately not getting any of those beauties any time soon!) and maybe if I spot one that's suggested here I'll make sure I pick it up!

When I had little birds only, I always had one of those little wooden table top type. However, I just ordered a big one yesterday:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027J7M0S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Amazon.com : Prevue Pet Products Small Parrot Playstand 3181 Black Hammertone, 17.625-Inch by 16-1/2-Inch by 59-Inch : Bird Perches : Pet Supplies[/ame]

I'll let you know how it goes. It's probably overkill for a single lovebird though. I got it and some jute to wrap the top and make another perch in a middle size so all my birds can use it.

I have the Prevue small parrot playstand from Amazon that is the main stand my GCC uses. It wasn't too hard to put together, is pretty good quality (I wrapped the top in sisal :p), and is easy to clean. I added a bunch of different kinds of perches, toys, moved her food dishes higher, and she's a happy bird.

However, I don't always want to steer that large playstand through the house if I only need it for 10 or 15 minutes. I have cats, so tabletop stands are not a wise idea. Instead I have found untreated baskets are adored by my GCC. I simply hang them from hooks and put newspaper inside and below them to catch poop. It's a stand and chew toy in one! It's easy to hang small toys from them as well.

That's a super cute idea. I couldn't hang them from the ceiling (I'm in an apartment) but maybe I could hang it up from a book case or a bird feeder stand.

Phlox and Dustbunny had great suggestions for a playstand, love the basket idea. If you look on line, I think you'll find a bigger variety than most pet stores carry. I really just wanted to say Hi and I hope things are still going well with Cream. I love your avatar and signature.

I use the basket thing too. I have 3 of them I can move around the house. The biggest one even Iris will be able to use...once she's over being scared of it!

Thanks, Allee! He's doing really great. He's a lot more playful and comfortable now. I wouldn't call him "tame" but that's okay, I know he likes me, just not sure of those hands and all. He seems to be a really happy bird. He's a prankster though and he's like a little kid that tries to get away with just enough until he gets me annoyed lol. Also, my avatar/signature is a pokemon named Murkrow..

What kind of basket works best and where can I get them? As, an online store. Like, is there a link you can provide on amazon that works well? I think if I got one of those flower hangers/bird feeder hangers, that would work really well for him. He loves to explore and check out new areas, so he'd love a little hanging toy like that.

Hobby Lobby sometimes carries untreated baskets. Sometimes vendors will sell them at local farmer's markets as well. One of my baskets looks like a shallow egg basket and is made of a straw material. That one can only be hung from a ceiling hook or set on a table. My favorite basket is one made to be hung on a wall. The back is flat and the front rounded into a shallow basket. That one is great because it can hang on almost any wall hook.

I've always wanted to learn how to make baskets, so I figure that will be my next project: learn to make wall baskets. My goal is to have a basket stand in each room so there is always a safe place for a flighted bird to land. Now I just need to finish up the half dozen other projects I'm in the middle of... LOL
