BG: Rosey is a Rose breasted cockatoo, that is about 10 months old. She is my mother's cockatoo that is staying with me until the end of this month. She has been with me for a month already.

So today started off normal as usual, the only difference is that my cousin came over today. And kept her distance from rosey but spoke to her sweetly and even offered her a treat. Today she wasn't her usual sweet self. She was biting quite a lot! It started off as nipping than intense biting, not listening, not stepping up or down. This isn't her usual behavior. This is the complete opposite of who she is. I put her down early today to sleep, and in the morning I uncover her around 8:30am because I want her to get some zzz's because my kids wake up super early for school and I thought keeping her covered would be best until the kids all leave and she gets another two hours of resting time.

I do have to admit that I haven't been able to do our training sessions for the last week. I don't know if that effected her or not.

Any ideas or advice would be great.

Could just be the season. Weather changes (especially going into breeding season) can cause hormone spikes. Could she be molting? Whatever the case keep working with her and try to work through it. If one of you starts getting frustrated take a break, but it won't get better by leaving her alone. Do you have visitors often, or was this her first time meeting your cousin?

I do get visitors often and this was her first time meeting my cousin. I don't leave her alone. I usually take her out the times she usually comes out and interact with her and play with her just the same. It's just she's been super bitey today. She is molting, I try to help her when she wants head scratches. She usually loves it, but today even with that it was like, scratch her head and within seconds she turns around and bites and then wants me to scratch her head again.

They do have off days, particularly when spring hormones and moulting is thrown into the mix. Keep an eye on her but I wouldn't worry just yet.

I have a 'male' but have never had any of what you are describing.

She is obviously out of sorts and my inclination is AV, sorry. Don't forget they do try and hide illness and if it is something it's better to catch it early.

Obvious checks - eating OK? Poo OK, Sleeping normal?

Hope you get to the bottom of what is making her a bit unhappy with things.

Ps the only other thing I can think of is, are you catching the new pin feathers as that can be a bit sensitive to them. Are you spraying or bathing regularly?

I would want the confirmation she is OK so would go to AV as she is obviously not happy today.

She is molting and I see a lot of feathers coming in. She is eating fine and playing, I think the molting might be pissing her off.

Yes could be, you are there and I'm not. Bathing etc will help. Plum likes me to break some of his pins for him.

I havent had him be like this during his moult though. He is usually just very busy preening.

My Groot is exactly the same , cant understand the change in him but he too is moulting and I'm hoping when its over he will come back to normal. Sometimes really cuddly and will let you rub him and next thing I open the cage in the morning and he will just lunge at me. I'm hoping it improves. He wont do any of his stuff he used to do like step up etc. This has been going on a few months now. Has yours improved any over the past few days?
