I adopted a Ringneck yesterday called bimbo! He was my friends and her son with special needs was stressing him out due to banging cage ect so he had started plucking his chest. I don’t think they handled him very much he is nearly one so they tell me. I bought him home yesterday he’s been quite not heard much out of him at there house he did a lot of shouting which I head. He seems quite calm and was eating my 9pm gave him some nice apple slices which he seems to enjoy. I’ve stopped his toys around and gererally quite happy I think. I’ve not noticed him pluck anything. Just wondering what is best way to start handling - I’ve never had a bird so other than what I’ve read up on I’m clueless!! And tips advice anything really would be grateful. I don’t want to leave handling ect too long :green2::01:

Hi,

Welcome!

Good for you rescuing this sweetie. And coming here and asking questions. Start here: http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html

Than continue to read through the forums to get educated. Especially the Ringneck Forum.
Allow her time to adjust to her new surroundings. She is very confused right now & frightened. Treat her as if you just adopted a young child, be gentle, kind, considerate of her feelings and understanding. Give her space and allow her to figure things out.

That’s all I got for now. I’m sure you’ll get wonderful advice as more ppl will chime in.

Thanks very much I’ll have a read of that now. He still seems more than happy is sat here munching away and I haven’t noticed any plucking.

You're a hero!
Great advice above.
I think you and your rescued darling are going to be fine. Take your time, read and chat (about diet, care, cages, all that), and pat yourself on the back!

Great job rescuing her, do you have a name? They like pics here. Be patient, and you’ll learn grasshopper.
Welcome and good luck

Good on you for adopting.

All the above advice :) also just let the bird settle in. Get used to the sound of the house and its surroundings. Love and attention will go a long long way and when your confident then you can try hand feeding and get him/her used to your hands.

We are here for you x
