You can save about $100 by making your own cargo net ... I bought a $7 50' roll of sasil rope from my local Home Depot, I also bought 4 anchor carabeanors at $1.50 each, ... a few hours later I now have a 4 foot x 3 foot cargo net ... and to think, I almost spent $120 yesterday on one ...

OK! So, I just saw on this other website that "sisal rope purchased in a hardware store should not be used do to oils in rope ..." This site was also selling sisal rope at extreemly high costs (about $9.00 per 50 feet, about 17 meters) ... I can't find anything else to cross reference this will ... can anyone help me out on this one? The cargo net will now sit in a corner until I can get to the bottom of this one ... :34:

umm I would use it but that's just me maybe some one else can explain the pros and cons.

I would get in touch with the hardware store and ask about the oils, I've been looking for ways of cleaning this but so far have found nothing.

I wouldn't use it until I was 100% sure it was oil free, too risky for my liking. If I come across anything I'll get it posted.

the packaging said, "100% Sisal" so I thought it was safe ... I agree with you Peta ... too risky, even if it is under false pretenses.

But you know what is funny, I was all about using this rope until I found this one blurb on a random website. Now, because of that one random website I am unsure if I am going to use it. The funny thing is that I like to think of myself as an educated individual. I can usually acquire information and distinguish between fact and fiction. Right now, I feel completely inept.

Yeah, know what you mean, I've been scouring the net, (I was going to get a load of it from the hardware store for the aviary) but can't seem to find any info on How to remove the oil. For all the ropes we've got inside I've always got online from a pet place, but never even thought of the oils in there if the place said 100% Sisal. I'll carry on looking and if I find anything I'll get it posted.

Hmmm....I've never heard anything about Sisal Rope being bad for birds, or anything about the oils in it. In fact, any bird website I've been to that has toy ideas always recommends using Sisal ropes for bird toys b/c the rope frays easier and is good for preening

All of the parrot stores will have the sisal rope that doesn't have the oil in it, its the hardware stores that seem to have the oils still in them. The prices at the hardware stores are a lot cheaper than the parrot stores.

Tex, I meant to ask my Vet yesterday when I went but completley forgot about it I'm sorry. I still haven't been able to confirm or deny this claim either but I'm still looking Don't you just hate it when you find a store that tells you something but you can't find anywhere else that will confirm or deny the statement.
