I've seen him do normal aggressive posturing(hackles raised, head ready to bite), but this always seemed funky to me.

The really weird thing he does is yawn in a aggressive way(he doesn't like my camera), does anyone else have a bird that does this? I'm curious to find out if this is normal grey behavior, or something that he has taught himself to do. He is opening his beak just like he's yawning, but it's clearly a more controlled yawn compared to a sleepy yawn. His eyes get squinty like he's giving me the stink eye, but he also get squinty eyes when he is yawning normally.

He only does this to my camera, or to my brother.

Another yawn.

Something else that he does, which seems much more normal to me, is slowly stretch his head upwards then back down until it's in it's normal spot, or lower it further and hold his head at a funny angle. When he does this he will usually not be looking at me, but occasionally when his head is at the lowest point he will for a moment.

I don't know if it's normal to yawn like that, but I know birds open their mouths slightly when they're scared. Maybe it has something to do with that. Of course, this is a little more than slightly opened. :) It could also be a bite threat. Sometimes birds open their mouths like they're going to bite, but really it's just a warning. My caique also does the head postures and stretching of neck that you described, so that's probably normal.

Bosley does the big open beak thing, I think for Bos it means I don't know what that is but I'm more than ready to bite it!!!

Merlin does this! Charlie too to an extent. Usually accompanied by a low growl or whinge. I think it's just a good warning that he doesn't like what you're doing at all, but is giving you a good chance to just back out of the scenario.

If my memory serves me right, usually happens when my guys are sleepy and grumpy from it too. Not sure if it's the same for you.

Nice pics (despite what you're trying to convey!). Think a video would be a better example of it though. :)

I'm glad this is normal LOL Rosie NEVER does either of those things.

Thanks you for your input :)

My phones dead right now and my charger is at my friends house, but tomorrow when I pick it up I'll take a video of him doing it. It doesn't seem to stress him out at all, more like just a warning as people have said

Sometimes when they open their beak like that, it's not aggression or even a yawn, it's that they are 'adjusting' their crop.

my BFA does that when i am scratching his ear....like he s trying to "adjust" something inside of it that i have disturbed... like when we humans yawn and something "changes" in the pressure inside our ears...
