Cockatiels - Oz & Kaila
Before I went on vacation five days ago, Oz would attack his reflection EVERY time he saw it and get a little aggressive after seeing it. I just came back today and we had a great time together, he was still every bit as cuddly as he was when I left (my grandma came and played with him five times a day when I left).

But now, when he sees himself in the mirror, it's a real concert. He wolf whistles at himself, chirps while bobbing his head and all kinds of sounds xD It's kind of adorable but I'm baffled by the sudden change... Right now, he's on his window perch, telling himslef how handsome he is xD Should I try to keep him away from reflective surfaces (will he be less bonded to me if I allow him to sing to himself in a window/mirror)

He's just reached 6 months. I also noticed that he seems to be losing more down faethers than usual in his grooming. Is this part of his upon us first molt?

:grey:

July seems to be the 'moult month', ha ha... most of my birds are moulting and are seriously cranky, and nippy.

since he finds himself so 'handsome' I really don't see the harm in it, unless it starts to become a negative impact on your relationship, if that happens, I'd remove it.

I'm gonna try to get a vid so I can post it on here <3

The molt is normal. Both my birds are the same age as your and both are molting.

Same here. My house, these days, is feathers, feathers, everywhere! Just keep an eye on his behavior with his reflection. If he becomes obsessed with it, or aggressive, or seems to be sexually aroused, that could lead to problems. Some birds seem to realize that it is themselves. Does he? I had a Lovebird who would move back & forth, and watch herself, and twitter in an adorable way. It seemed to me that she recognized herself & me in the reflection. I remember one time that she was on my shoulder, in front of a mirror. She looked from me to my reflection several times, as if to say, "which one is real?" Or "is that you also?"

Yes the molt is normal and no I don't usually find it to be a problem with Cockatiels singing to themselves in the mirror. I'm still able to handle them without issues. As long as you keep on playing with him, nothing really changes.

Molt is normal. He is 'changing his tune' because he is becoming sexually mature and finds his reflection attractive (kind of like teenage boys who start liking girls instead of been bothered by them)/

Uh-oh! If he finds himself hot, then doesn't that mean he's a little bit gay? Lol!
