That is SO true! There's a parrot rescue facility a couple of hours' drive away from me - I've seen it on TV (an item a couple of years ago), but I just can't bring myself to visit there.
They have hundreds of mistreated, abused, physically (some horribly) and emotionally damaged parrots, of many species there. Their policy is that they never, ever re-home any of the birds once they enter the facility. The scenes on TV were so heartbreaking that I had nightmares for weeks, and continue to be troubled by it.
The result was that I found myself far more actively rescuing parrots from my area. Of course, I never "foster" them - they always become beloved family members. We're up to 9 at present but, as we've run out of room for cages, we're holding at this number.
I would advocate for more people to adopt unwanted parrots, but in truth, it's difficult to find "parrot-savvy" people to do it. Most well-meaning but inexperienced people have no idea how much of a commitment that truly caring for a parrot requires (I know, I'm preaching to the choir here!). I tend to wear out my welcome with people who do know their way around parrots...I keep finding them brand new family members!
