Welcome Sammy!

Aw, that's my boy! Is he doing okay? I'm settled into my new apartment in Honduras, learning interesting things like how ALL food must be kept in the fridge lest the ants swarm it and how to use a "suicide shower" head (the water is heated in the head of the shower by electrical wires!). I miss him so much. I watch the wild parrots around here and think of my guy! <3

Suicide shower?!?! Glad you are settling in...
Next you'll be figuring out how to befriend the wild parrots ;)

Hi Michelle, it's great to hear from you! It sounds like your new home is keeping you busy. Sorry to hear about the ants and the suicide shower head, ugh! Have you had a chance to explore? What is it like? Tell us everything!

I haven't met Sammy, but I've heard lots about him! He is apparently the smartest, handsomest, friendliest quaker to have ever hatched. Joe gets to spend a big part of the day with Sammy before he leaves for work in the afternoon. Sammy is getting plenty of attention, Joe stayed home with his new friend on his days off because it's too hot to travel. They are getting to know each other and having fun.

I'll have Joe take some new photos for you tomorrow.

Here's a couple of new pics of the little Prince. He has trouble being still long enough to be photographed by his PIT (parront in training).

Working on his canoe project?

Considering a new roof?

I don't know how I missed this thread!
What a fantastic resolution:) Sammy sure looks like he is enjoying himself, and I know what relief this must be for Michelle to know what a wonderful home he is in.
PIT, love that! It thrills me that Joe has a friend for his very own now:)

I'd also love to hear about Honduras!

I almost missed the new posts too! Good to hear from you Michelle :)! I hope everything works out smoothly over there, and I wish you well. I know it will take some getting used to.

Sammy looks adorable, and he does look like he's trying to figure out canoeing in his water bowl lol!

LOL, that's my adorable boy! It's actually been pretty great here... I've been doing a lot of SCUBA diving and am going to try and get my Divemaster certification I think. Tomorrow I am going on a trip to the marine park at Cayos Conocos or something like that with some friends. The weather is not as hot as it is in Texas but is super humid, and A/C is too expensive on the island where we are living so it's all fans, all the time! I bought a bicycle to ride through the town where we live, though it is quite the rust bucket--aka like a Cadillac here! ;) Spend a lot of time being busy doing nothing, though I am working my online job. It's really strange to live somewhere where stuff we take for granted is so expensive or nonexistent, but I am learning to live off baliedas, LOL! There is a capuchin monkey that lives at our apartment complex who is crazy cute. I'm not a believer in buying monkeys as pets, but this one lives free in a Central American environment, at least, rather than cooped up in a cage. You just can't leave your door unlocked or it will raid your fridge! Overall, it's not been so bad. It takes some adjusting, but that's how it is, I guess!

Hey Michelle, thanks for the update, glad to hear you've found some pleasant ways to spend your time. Good luck with your Divemaster certification, how exciting. I know you're enjoying the scuba diving. Your bike may be a challenge but it's a great way to explore your new place. LMBO at the friendly little capuchin raiding fridges, does he have friends or does the little thief prefer to work alone? What is a balieda? Take care of yourself and keep checking in so we can share your adventure. We need photos, pretty please!

Sammy is having a great time bossing Joe around. I finally heard a recording of Sammy saying peek-a-boo, he has an adorable voice. Joe thinks Sammy's the coolest parrot ever, he leaves music playing while he works, he says Sammy has exquisite taste in music, Lol. As long as they're having fun. :)

Hi Michelle! I'm glad to hear you're doing your best adjusting to an entirely different place :). Wow, what an experience of a lifetime that you will look back on someday and have many memories... I agree with Allee, we'd LOVE to see pictures! Take some pics as you explore the environment on your bike :D. Great time to get your Divemaster cert!

Hey, Michelle! Despite the difficulties of adjusting to such a different environment, I'm glad to hear that things are going well for you and that you're enjoying yourself. (Suicide shower head notwithstanding. Lol!) Please continue to keep us updated with the goings on, and I second Allee's request for pics.

Allee, those are some great pics of little Sammy! And, as always, I love the captions. "New roof"! Hahaha!

Aww...congrats! It must have been very hard for Michelle but I'm sure she knows that her baby could not have gone into a better home.

Hi guys! I took some pictures of the apartment and the island!

Probably more pics than you wanted, LOL! :)

Macaws are actually the national bird of Honduras and can be seen WILD here!

Woooooooowwwww.... What gorgeous surroundings you have!!!

Hope life is treating you well down there!

Yeah, the town itself is pretty grimy with trash everywhere and rusted stuff and peeling paint, but the nature is GORGEOUS!

Wow! Michelle, you really are in a gorgeous place. Not too many photos at all, please feel free to share more at any time. I love the pic of the whale shark, incredible. Wild macaws, it must be thrilling to see them in their natural habitat. I didn't know they were the national bird of Honduras, very fitting.

Thanks for the wonderful update!

Beautiful shots! And it's amazing that you hot shots of a whale shark! Sweet!

Don't you worry about giving too many pics! We are enjoying them immensely, so keep on sharing.

Allee I've only been on this site for 5 days but from what I've seen so far you are a wonderful person and wonderful bird owner. Sammy is very lucky to end up with such a great person in his time of need. Good luck to you Sammy and the rest of the flock
