soooooo
I have been looking at everyplace that sells quakers to make sure Neptune wasn't being sold. I have seen some gorgeous mutation of greys, and whites, and blues, and even a half white half blue .. ive visited many petstores and seen many babies . I said to myself I couldn't ever have another blue quaker
Then dang it one nabbed my heart!!!! He was screaming his head off at ear splitting level ever time i went to that store.......finally i let myself go meet him.

He came over chatted to me stood on his head, showed off ran and got a toy and brought it to me, preened my hair through tge bars. So I brought him home yesterday!@@

He has been at the petstore since he was eight weeks old , and then over 8 weeks at the store. Tgey wee thinking of returning him to the breeder..So he is a screamer, scared of hands big time, and he has been barbering his feathers, and started plucking a few hours after I brought him home .

okay now the good stuff! I love him! I know i can help him!

I named him Orbit. I was going to name him Jupiter, who is brother to Neptune in mythology, but when ever I said Jupiter I thought Neptune. So Orbit is fun to say, abd I think think of him when I say it :)
Yesterday when I brought him home I out him in the cage and he froze in place. So I sat a foot away sitting sidewsys abd read a book abd talked to him off abd in. When he relaxed and start moving i told him how good he was praised him big time. Then left him alone.

Then I came back later and played with his fiid and water so he knew where it was, when he drank and ate like one pice of pellet, then out himself to bed.

He slept in and didn't move till 9 am.
I stated feeding him seeds by hand ( after being bit, yelled at run away, and all that lol ) once he took tge seeds I fed him one or two evey 10-15 min all day long. Every time he took a seed I praised him big time! When he got good at that I'd stroke his beak as he took the seed.
Then I started offering, tiny pieces if veggies, or popcorn, or his pellets by hand. He has now chowed on broccoli! And at tge end of today I have given him some good head scratches and taught him to give kisees!

Edit: this might help some people. I hsd to switch to using my left hand for everything lol . Because you know how bird can freak when you use a different hand, or how they will only step up to the hand you trained them with at first ( most if us its the right)
Well he us so fearful if hands I decided to try the left hand. And that worked! I can only feed and touch with my left hand. I think everyone used the right hand so it was a clean slate to use tge left if that makes sense??

thank you both! So expensive at the pet store omg! I could have gotten a rare color mutation so much cheaper!

Such a screamer at the store! But when I finally made myself go meet him he put on such a show for me, and dang it you know I did not need another bird...pet stores are dangerous! But he stole my heart in an instant .... and somehow its ok , he reminds me if the best memories of Neptune but he is his own self all the way. Of course will have to DNA could be a little lady..m

Congrats Laura. I hope Orbit helps heal that heart of yours, so hurt by the loss of neptune. He is a lucky lil birdy in finding a home with you.

Laura, Orbit is adorable! Look at those sweet baby eyes [emoji3590][emoji3590][emoji3590]

Thank you Saxguy.
He does have much larger eyes than Neptune had even as a baby , it was the first thing I noticed about him after tge screaming! So you are observant!

Corporate policy at thus pet store us zooprem pellets only, no millit spray, no seeds no treats, no offering veggies. The employees told me they would be fired on rge spot if was fed anything other than zooprem...

He has never been offered a bath. Abd tgey yse these tiny protective water dushes that he couldn't dip a toe in.

But they had set up his cage with every kind of toy and perches. And after I bought tgem they said tgey had just been having a meeting about sending him back and they were so sad. I had wondered why there were 10 employees there and I was the only shopper!
They were ecstatic thst i was taking him home!

So when he ate a bunch if broccoli, abd popcorn and peas on his first day with me i was so happy!!!

I gave him a spritz bath too, his first! He liked!
Really feel my heart has healed with him And all my other wonderful parrot babies. Feel it was fated, or at least he choose me

If I had second thoughts of giving him tge wacky name Orbit , its too late he is already trying to say it! He would be my first partot to say their name since Burt the Burd ( who ended up being a girl)

Orbit day 2
Back to bites and not letting me touch him. Step up training won't be starting for awhile.

So just started the feeding a seed by hsnd again. That definitely went quicker than last time. He remembered come to me nice and take seed no bite, if you bite no seed ... lol

It doesn't matter the set backs or tests in the road to come, the destination is clear in my mind. Trust and love.

Ta dah saw him, and.....ouchie...its clear she thought he was Neptune at first.....and is still a little confused. She can't take her eyes off him and wants to be close to him...sorry Tadah love I didn't think....

I'm having an off day do to my health . So mostly just letting him settle.

But to encourage a bath, I floated a red bottle cap in the water. He has played so much with thst bottle cap! Putting it in the water taking it out, carries it around throws it, goes to get it, keeps it with him sooo cute. And he took his first bath!
I put a shelf in his cage from one of my white cages , abd its nice for the foot toys, his little wood blocks from bird store, a piece of carrot and lettuce. He at least held the carrot lol but not eating it yet, did eat more broccoli !
He is a loud bird....

Post bath picture, chewing on shredders, trusty red cap not to far away
