As some of you know I'm looking more seriously into getting a bird since I've become stable (out of college, full time job).

Frequently I will go away for the weekend and stay at my boyfriend's family cabin in the mountains. In the summer it's maybe two weekends a month. Do any of you do these kind of things frequently? Does your bird travel with you and you just have a smaller cage for the weekend? I'm just thinking it wouldn't be optimal to have to find a bird sitter or boarder that frequently in the summer for a couple weekends. Or maybe you have a deal with some other bird owner in the area and you take care of each other's birds for your respective travels?

Thanks!!:blue1:

I commend you for waiting until you are out of college and can afford the responsibility of your pet.
Optimally,I think getting a travel cage is a great idea. It is not always feasible to take my bird with me, but if possible... yes I do.
I suggest getting the largest cage you can easily fit in the back seat of your car. Lucky birdie gets to go to the cabin in the mountains with you! hehe :)

I don't go away anymore for the time being due to certain circumstances, but several years ago I would leave the birds at home if we left on a Friday morning - home Sunday night. Someone would come in maybe on Saturday. It was always fine. The birds never acted like it was a big deal.

Many people do take their birds along on trips. Sounds like a nice idea if your boyfriend's family doesn't mind. Some people hire pet sitters, family members, take them to a boarding facility... It's whatever YOU personally feel comfortable with, and also how independent vs clingy your particular bird is as to how they'll do best.
