So my baby stepped up to me today for the first time! I know I posted only this past weekend about this and it appears that he knew :D. He came out this morning as usual with target, clicker and treat. I asked for a step up from the cage as I usually do and as always he yelled at me and stepped away. So I just went about my business doing some cleaning up of the patio. One on of my passes by the cage I asked for a step up and lo and behold out came the foot and he hopped happily onto my hand - not even a peep! I was so happy! So with that I brought his perch into the living room and he spent the rest of the afternoon inside with the family watching TV and getting treats and then he even took a nap.

Its just a pity that I have to return to work tomorrow and spoil this little bond that we've had these past few days. See I've been on vacation and had the days free to work with him. Now we'll be back to a few minutes in the morning and maybe some time at night if its not too late. He turns in with the sunset so I don't get a lot of time with him before he's ready for bed. :(

I hope we don't take too many steps back before Saturday when I'm off again. Thanks to everyone for their ideas since I got him little over a month ago as I know that without the support I'd have probably done things a lot differently and probably messed it up good!

Glad to hear of your progress, he'll adapt to your schedule , don't stress. You may even find him more loving in the late PM quiet time . Good luck

Thanks HP! Your advice has been invaluable and I'd have done it all wrong if it weren't for you. He definitely is looking at me as "his person" now and even though he's still a little shaky in the trust department when I walk around with him he's taken to having his feet held now (he didn't like that before). A few good days like this and we'll be moving on to some trick training. He seems to get excited by the clicker and the treats and I've been saving those only for when he's out of his cage so I'm sure that's helped convince him that out of the cage can be a good thing.

My next thing to work on is figuring out how to improve his diet. He came to me with seeds and peanuts. His dad said he gave him fruit and veggies but he doesn't like any veggies that I've given him so far and he only likes grapes. That's it! So that's my next challenge. Thanks again for your help - and all the other posters who offered encouraging words and experiences.

Glad to hear all is well and it's because you care , good luck
