Washer/Dryer help?

So my sister is looking for a new washer and dryer for her house and doesn't know who to buy one from, she's looking at a Maytag performance series something or other (she's driving me a bit nuts haha) anyone have any suggestions about what their favorite brand or set it?

I don't really have any brand advice. I do like buying my appliances from local, owner by a regular person type store over the monster chains that have enough money lol.

this is how i view it, buying such items

i expect it to last 4/5 years, doing 7 loads a week

i do not buy extended warrenty, as most come with the yr warrenty and 5yrs parts

i pay about £200/£250 per machine, and they generally last past the 5 yrs mark

i also look at length of wash cycles, energy ratings, i use premium washing liquids and descale machine every 3 months, so laundry is an expensive out lay

Maytag used to be a great brand, but not so much now. Appliances these days seem to be made to break after a few years, and then you find usually they aren't worth fixing either. When I bought this house, the washer and dryer were Maytags from the 50s and they worked for more than 40 years. Pretty amazing compared to today's appliances. My current washing machine is Kenmore (Sears) and I've had it probably 8 or 9 years now. What I get with mine though is eventually they become corroded from my water. They aren't worth repairing. But, brands all seem to be pretty similar these days and most are made in third world countries. If you get more than 5 or 6 years out of new appliances these days, you did well.
