Our last three pets have been second hand, rehomed pets. One through a pet store that I knew the owner, once a rescue and one an owner. We found out about a Macaw needed in a home through our vet. We visited, found out the birds history and after taking some time decided we would like to have him as part of our family.
So now we wait. We have gotten everything as ready as possible. The wife is the owner and since we visited she has moved for the winter across the country. The husband doesn't want to do anything without her directions. We are wondering if it will really happen now that she is gone.
I have a hard time with vague answers and waiting. At this point with all the anticipation and getting ready I'm thinking it feels less like adopting a pet and more like expecting a baby! Does that sound weird or can anyone identify?

I have only rescued...I mean like I saw my baby being abused and took action. I can only imagine what your going thru...I wish you luck..I have read your other posts. I have a mini macaw...but her attitude is bigger than me..lol and expecting a baby is exactly what it is!!!! Sissy will be two in November and she acts like a me a two year old...including tantrums lol. You came to the right place for advice....keep us updated. Good luck.

I strongly recommend that you do not provide a 'down payment.' Maybe a letter of Intent with a full Vet Check prior to exchanging monies.

In this age of near constant contact, needing to obtain direction from another family member is like a few minutes, too maybe a day, a couple days worst case.

Best of luck and thank-you for rehoming!
