Funny Underwear Not Necessarily Yakish!

Wow! Sorry, was just told I had to caugh up over 3K for a new fridge!
Ah, but 24 easy payments!!

Oh, I feel your pain, but over 3K? I've noticed a decrease in fridge lifespans as they are feature-laden and are seemingly less well made. Had to replace one 3 years ago that only lasted for 7! The salesperson for my newest fridge spun it as a great opportunity to buy the newest and highly featured units. Really? Consumer reports suggests the most trouble-prone features are ice-makers and water dispensers. My current fridge already had an inop ice-maker... good thing I bought an extended warranty. Something I generally NEVER do!!

I have a garage fridge that is a simple top-freezer unit that is close to 20 years old - mostly for bird stuff and Costco purchases.

Rub it in! As for statistics, dying refrigerator? Bad ice maker, broke water dispenser, control board just went out so no self defrost!

That reminds me, my previous fridge had a failed control board. IIRC that was around $800. :( IDK if there is anything a user can do to prolong life?

My cost was $125(family in the repair biz) and my labor, but with the other two items, felt it wasn't worth replacing the part!

Yesterday's Ice Effectively Labeled Death

N A S T Y

OK, there is a nasty story to accompany my answer. In the late 1980s, the pilots of a transpacific flight originating in Bangkok became ill enroute but managed to continue to the destination of San Francisco. Next day the captain went to the doctor with some awful symptoms including fluid loss from all orifices. Testing led to a bizarre conclusion that he and the others were exposed to dead bodies! Huh? Well, during their layover the three pilots each purchased a can of cold beer from a street vendor. The cans were loaded in a large barrel and covered with ice to keep cold. It was later determined the creepy origin of the ice that contaminated the lids. The vendor obtained the ice free of charge from a local mortuary. Seems the bodies were packed in ice during transport, and on arrival the bacteria-laden ice was discarded and repurposed.:(
