FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - September 29, 2012 - ZuPreem®, under parent company Premium Nutritional Products, Inc. is voluntarily recalling the 11/30/13 and the 11/13 expiration date codes of ZuPreem Medium/Large and Large FruitBlend™ With Natural Fruit Flavors maintenance formula bird foods. This voluntary recall is being initiated because two lots may contain calcium levels higher than the recommended level.
The voluntary recall is limited only to 11/30/13 and 11/13 expiration dates.
Consumers are advised to review the backside of packaging for the "Use By" or "Best By" (expiration date) to determine if the product has been affected by this voluntary recall. All ZuPreem channels, including distributors and retailers, have been notified of the voluntary recall. Each partner has been asked to immediately remove these products from store shelves.
The two voluntarily recalled lots are 598405052 and 598405072. The lot and expiration dates by sku, are listed below:

Thanks for the info. I am worried because I don't keep the original bag, I poor into a different ziplock. I may just throw it out and buy new stuff today.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I had created a thread several weeks ago addressing my conure's loose stools, and now I have a reason behind it: ZuPreem! Thank goodness I switched his pellets over to Harrison's several weeks ago.

If you feed this exclusively, it's probably worth tossing anything of unknown lot, but the problem with the product is an elevated calcium level -- it's not a good thing, but it's not as serious as if the product were contaminated with bacteria or something like that. Somebody probably tossed an extra bag of calcium supplement into the batch. I wish they'd specify HOW elevated the levels are.

There are at least three separate threads about this recall. I wonder if it is worth the mods trying to consolidate them somewhow. There may be even more on species specific threads...

Petco's supply chain group may only be notifying stores that receives the effected lot.

Possible. The local bird store in Santa ClRita said they hadn't heard either.

Some are saying there is a VERY high calcium content, but I haven't seen hhard numbers.
