Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone adds anything to their birds foods/treats. I'm not a big fan of the stuff you add to water because I think everyone needs access to clean water.
I had been adding egg shell to the treats I made but the birds don't seem to like it. I was wondering If I should just get one of those cuddle bones and shred it or if I could use human calcium supplements. I would get the all natural ones without anything extra added. Gonna do some research before I give any human type stuff, just wanted to know if anyone else gave anything like this.

I add eggs along with the eggshell to my birdie bread mix for extra added calcium.

Almonds are a great source of calcium and not high in fatand dark leafy greens offer calcium as well.

I don't add any vitamin supplements, as I don't think it's needed.

Ah, good. My birds love almonds and get a few every day.
I wish I could get them to eat the eggshell but they usually stop eating the food and make a face like you or I would when we realize there's eggshell in our breakfast.
I'm still having a hard time getting them to eat their pellets, I thought they liked the Zupreem but apparently it was just a 2 day affair :(

Yeah Tucker really likes the Zupreem Conure size because he can hold it in his foot. I give him the Hagen brand hgh potency pellets and put a small handful of the Zupreem mixed in with it (just a little bit because I don't like all the extra artificial food colouring) and he thinks it's awesome! Probably because it's so fruity smelling/(tasting?) in comparison with the natural coloured brown pellets.

Love Ashley and Tucker :D

No, I used to add things but the food my birds are on now have so much for nutrients that if I added any, they would overdose (I LOVE ROUDYBUSH haha) anyways, the one I used was the hagen PRIME stuff. You're supposed to put it on food but you CAN put it in water, if you really have to. It's got enough vitamins and minerals that it can keep a sick bird who's not eating pretty safe in the food department. It also smells good... but don't try it. It doesn't taste that good... not like I've tried it or anything... :)

Persistence is the key, and I am sure you know that ... but try this ... go out and get a box of Trix cereal, which really looks just like Zupreem to me, eat it with your birdies and they will think you are all eating the same thing ...

Heck Tex I have been just eating the zupreem pellets. I wish I'd thought of that.
Coincidentally, I've grown this really nice tail.

Hey guys, flyte said she has a really nice tail ... wink, wink, nudge, nudge, *adolescent male giggle*

... maybe I should have suggested this sooner? Sorry 'bout that!

Didn't you know? When they take away your guts they give you free time instead.

The only human 'supplement' I give Keupi is milk thistle and that's under vet recommendation to help his liver/kidney situation.

Human food is a different category in my mind.

I agree that about not adding stuff to a fid's water. I've only done it when there are watery droppings issues (sans massive veggie/fruit eating) when a drop or two of Gatorade to nurse them until you can get them to the vet (weekends) seems to do the trick (save the paper though). I don't play though with water.

Definitely do your research and talk with your vet before adding supplements. I know there are some supplements available of certain vitamins/minerals, but that they need to be formulated for parrots by a vet or by a pharmacist specializing in animals.
