I am happy and sad today.
I have Marley exactly 3 years this Memorial weekend.
About a year ago her original owner finally noticed my message on FB and contacted me. He was very excited to know that Marley is in good hands and was terrified that she had to go through few owners between him and me. He had a very hard time in 2008 after the market crashed, lost everything, moved to the apartment and had to give up Marley. I am exchanging pictures and videos of Marley with him for about a year now.
The crazy idea came to my mind just about a week ago to ask him if he will take Marley when I need to go on vacation. I haven't been going anywhere because of my birds for 3 years now and really want to take a trip for a week or two somewhere.
Well, he was so happy and told me that the whole family will be just thrilled. He lives in a house with his family and is doing much better now.
To make the story a bit shorter.......Marley and I went to see him today. It's about one hour drive for me.
The guy was crying, that's how happy he was to see her. Apparently he handfed her. I was almost crying when I heard him whistle, Marley does it exactly like him. Marley was a bit confused, but was kissing him.
So, my question................Would you consider returning a bird to the original owner under circumstances like that?
I am torn apart...... :(

Let's see, do you pull out your Brian or pull out your Heart?

Watch your parrot for the answer. Follow your parrot's want.

Please be careful. Are you 100% sure you will get Marley back ? This just scares me

I was thinking the same thing, and even had an idea of writing a little contract. I am worried of being impersonal, he seems to be such a nice guy. Also I was thinking how bad can it really be....worse comes to worse (let's say he is not giving her back to me) Marley will be with her original owner who loves her.
There is always a risk of him giving her up again, but I truly think he is a nice guy.
I don't know what to do............. :(

Unless you're willing to let her original owner keep her I wouldn't let him birdsit.

Even if he gave her back Marley might not want to come home.

I was thinking about this too.
But maybe it's just a great test for all of us.
Maybe Marley should stay with him after all if she doesn't want to come home.
Can birds make decisions like that? How will I know if she does or she doesn't?
I love her a lot and would love to keep her, don't get me wrong. I just want the best for her.

Very tough call on how to approach this.
