Hello all, I haven't been around much lately, I am a full time nursing student so I don't have a lot of time to post. However I wanted to pop in and show you all what hard work and wonderful help from the awesome people here can accomplish.

Davy and I still have a long way to go, but he has become this sweet playful bird. Last time I posted was when Davy nailed my upper lip. After that I didn't quite ignore him, but I backed way off. Pretty much no physical contact, I would let him out of his cage, talked to him etc, but not try to get close. At first he was acting like yeah baby, I am king! but then he started calling for me, even when i was in the room, and getting as close to me (while still on his cage) that he could and putting his head down. So I slowly started giving him attention, and every time he would try to bite, even playfully, I would walk away. Then it was like a light bulb went off in his head. Next time he asked for attention he was rubbing his head on my hands, he very very slowly and carefully beaked my fingers and rolled over, letting me even touch his legs and his upper chest, under his wings . . . I was amazed. Who is this bird?

I knew we were making big progress when i touched a pin feather and he growled because it was painful and i stopped, and he stepped back, then stepped back into my hand, no biting.

Now this is all done on top of his cage, he will stand on my arm for a treat, but sticks and being away from his cage freaks him out. My next step is to get a play gym/stand to get him away from his cage, but $$$ is an issue for now, so we make due.

Anyway, here is a video of him playing with me :) sorry it is so dark, he got all camera shy when the flash came on.

Well done - I am so impressed with your story. Just spending time with your bird is the best thing you can do - doesn't matter what you do, just being part of his life is the key and the bigger the part of it, the more you'll achieve. Well done - really!!

Thanks BigBlue! Your video melted my heart, I love Macaws so much! I will probably be owned by another someday :) Davy was a rescue and I had never considered having a 'Zon before, but he has won me over, and I am happy to give him his forever home :) I now have a whole lot more hope that he will trust me to completely someday :)

Thank you SO much for the update on Davy! The videos are AWESOME!!! :D You truly have come such a long way! I was melting when I was watching the first clip. :smile015: So sweet!!

Thanks JerseyWendy :) He pretty much has been melting my heart too. Mostly because he has gone from a scared cage bound bird to actively participating in life, learning to trust and just generally a happy bird.

Loving this update! It just goes to show how much can be accomplished through consistency. He's gone from being a biter to being a sweet bird who is lovingly gentle with your hands.

Please keep the updates coming. I have no doubt you'll eventually be able to take him anywhere with you as his trust in you continues to grow.

Awww, that's wonderful he's being so sweet and playful:) And that is just too cute with him scratching himself with the almond. What a cutie!

I hope so :) I think he would so love going on outings, I just have to help him get over his fear of leaving his cage. Next step is play stand/gym, I think that will be huge.

Isn't that the cutest thing? He does that all the time with various items, sometimes he will get to the closest point on his cage, and lean toward me doing it, and as soon as I move toward him he drops the item and puts his head down, like preen me NOW mom!!
