Pyro, my new baby sun conure
Here is a link to a video my husband took of Pyro earlier today.

Does anyone know what Pyro is doing in this video? My husband turned the sound off during the video for some reason.

Looks like a dance machine. It would go great to LMFAO's "I'm sexy and I know it" Especially the 'wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle' part of the song.

It would. :) I should figure out a way to put some music in the video. I am not very technologically inclined though.

He looks like a happy, dancing conure to me.

Ok I just wanted to make sure this was normal happy conure dancing and not a mating dance. I have no clue what a mating dance looks like, so I really have no clue what to watch for.

How funny! Conures are such goofballs...

He's a very handsome looking Sun :) Good thing I didn't let Con watch this or she'd be swooning :p

Helitorian, Thank you. :) I just love him so much. I never knew I could love a bird this much. I'm looking forward to watching his feathers change as he moults. He has his very first pin feather right now at 5 months old, so I think he is starting his mini moult.

His colors are amazing for that age! I thought he was older than 5 months. I understand what you mean about loving your bird. I never knew that I could love a bird so much either but they bring so much joy and ask for so little. They're just amazing, aren't they? :)

I want another one so much but I cant imagine loving one as much as him. I'm sure its the same as having children though, there is always enough love to go around.

There is:)

I'm not sure if conures do mating dances. Or at least my females never have. I have seen Rowdy make regurgitation motions to a toy but not actually bring anything up. My amazon does mating dances almost every day though.

His feathers are very fluffed up, which indicates he is either aggresive or relaxed, funny thing right? Most likely relaxed though, his eyes are wide and he's observing at one point, listening to whatever music you have, he's just being silly for the camera :)

I think his feathers are up because he's excited and happy. If you could see it on the video he is probably pinpointing his eyes, too.

He does this type of dancing all the time and its usually towards me. My husband recorded this when I wasn't around though. Pyro usually this dance when I ask him if he wants a head scratch. Once he sees my finger coming in to scratch he gets really excited and does this dance. He has gotten really cudely in the past month or so too. He will even lie on his back and let me play with his feet playing tickle tickle. It took some work to get him to do that, but he only does it for me. :)

Rowdy does it when she is dancing to music or begging/soliciting for attention. And sometimes she does it while she is playing. She will play with a toy, then stop and dance and bob her head, then run to another toy.

Hey! "SunMommy" and "RayPember" have the same name for there conures!

There are a ton of Merlins on here. I saw it on a list of most common parrot names, too. It's probably not the name I'd have given her, but she came to me with it. Oh, and yes, she is a she named Merlin, lol! I would not have named Pete Pete either, but he does seem to be the only one here.

Pyro is a little fire starter, so his name is perfect. Plus sun conures are the colors of flames. I love his name. :)
