Bought a thick manzanita perch for Salty, but its too slipper for him. Can i use vet tape to cover most of the perch?
Or can anyone make suggestion to make it less slippery?

Vet wrap should work as long as he doesn't love chewing it; then it would be more trouble than its work.

We've got all our wooden perches covered in vet tape (they are soooooo slippery) and Archie doesn't pick it off and it works a treat [emoji3]

Or you could wrap the perch in sisal rope if Salty likes to chew on the vetwrap.

Trudis PVC stand was way too slippery, so I have wrapped rope around it. I did however use nylon rope, as that was what I had at the time. It works like a charm :)

OK Vet tape it will be. At Sailboats advice I got this really fat manzanita perch like 3" diameter. Salty promptly slid right off of it. SO last night I put his old skinny perch back up. No night I will stop at a PetSmart and get vet tape or a fat perch with bark on it.

THose cast sand perches that look like a cholla stick are too aggressive for a sleeping perch; it took Saltys claws way down; too much down according to the vet.

Vet tape is available in lots of places, be watchful when your out and about, not as pricey as some places. Pet Smart should be a fair price, but sometimes a sporting goods store will care it 'Sport Wrap' for legs, arms, etc.. Also, check WalMart, when you are there next. But once again, to get Salty on the perch Pet Smart will get you started.

Very coarse sandpaper like 75 grit will commonly take the smoothness out of most anything.

With Salty's smaller foot, you could consider a 2.5" diameter. The goal is the arc as the foot rests on the perch. Regarding perches and bark, There is a natural branch that looks like someone got overly busy with a drill, they naturally come that way and they are commonly a lighter color (sorry the heads not working well this morning).

Salty Rules!

I bought a dozen or so rolls of the stuff for almost nothing on eBay. A package of 12 or 24 rolls costs not much more than a single roll from some places. Do you need a roll right away, I can mail you one in the morning.

Oh that is kind of you but no need to mail. With the x-mas madness here I forgot to get the vet tape, i'll get some tomorrow; we have loads of stores here. This thing with his claws is likey the source of his falling in the first place , and is my fault. because i felt his claws were too sharp, and put that very agressive sand perch in his cage as his sleeping perch. No sharp claws ment no purchase on the chain, ment he fell easily ment he hit his head and means I was a bad parront for not thinking things through. Salty , I promise to do better, buddy, I promise. Right now I put his old, old perch in, its about 1" dia. 'Boats it's hard to find perches in that diameter, I guess dowels will not do. I will scour the pet shops for a correct size one in the AM, even if I hve to drive all the way into NYC for one.

At this point, see if you can get him on a 2" natural perch, with no nails, smaller (the 1") is okay until he gets some nail length. His getting a good nights sleep is the most important thing, right now!

Remember, where you live, both sycamore and maple are very common! Dead easy to cut a limb and jamb it into the cage! If fancy, Lowes has most everything in SS to make mounts!

Red sky by day, probably OK. Red sky at night? Something's not right.

Red Sky in the Morning, Sailor take Warning,
Red Sky at Night, Sailor's delight.

Based on the early signs of the arrival of a Storm System. Red Sky in the Morning, presents a day in which the weather will worsen though the day. Red Sky at Night (the setting Sun (evening)), the Storm should pass by Morning.

The Weather system that is now past us here in East Central USA is now come into play along the East Coast where they would have a Red Sun rise this morning.

In addition, a cloudy night would cover the sky, stealing the only sure navigation tool they had, the Stars and any Moon light. Unless there was a Sure Wind, a wind they could trust to remain from the same direction, they would commonly drop sail at night, which was easier on the night watch or sail without changes to the sail settings. Red Sky in the Morning, meant that they would have heavy changing winds, stormy weather and the sails would be working hard all day.

This is based on Coastal and Great Lakes Sailing, not Ocean crossings, which had their own set of sayings.

LOL, way to stay on topic guys. While we are at it, I will relate The Brigands sure fire weather predicting method. Its the rock method.

Take a rock. Hold it out the window or porthole. Bring it back in. If it's:

Wet - its raining
Dry - its not raining
Covered in snow - its snowing
Cold - its cold out
Hot - its hot out
Gone - run for the basement, there's a tornado.
Covered in bird poop - Alfred Hitchcocks ghost is near
Covered in ice cream and chocolate syrup - your dead

Maybe your rock would be covered with ice cream and chocolate syrup (But I highly dough it!) Mine would be Rum and/or Gin!

What topic? Ohhh, that one!

Merry Christmas and may your Rum stay Island Pure!

"Boats I love a good pun. Too bad.

Merry X-mas to you and your crew!

I build my own PVC bird gyms and T-stands, I have a MASSIVE gym that takes up an entire spare bedroom, and I use either vet wrap or jute rope...BY FAR THE CHEAPEST PLACE TO BUY VET WRAP IS TRACTOR SUPPLY! You can buy it a roll at a time or in packs of 4 or 6, and they have all different colors and designs, like camo! Tractor Supply is less expensive than even Walmart, and don't even attempt Petco or PetSmart...The jute rope I buy at Walmart in the craft section, just make sure you read the label and make sure that it says "all-natural Jute".

Don't you mean:
Covered in wet poop - raining
Covered in warm poop - hot
Covered in snowy poop - snowing
No poop - somebody stole the parrot, run out the sweeps and catch em!
