I found a different vet to take my birds to. I'm hoping this man is much better than the last vet I took them to. Last time Carlisle went to the vet it was for a nail and wing trim they ended up cutting his nails WAY too short and left him bleed on the table like it was no big deal. They then gave my ex (he was the one who had taken him) a hard time because he wanted to spend time calming Carlisle down before taking him home. They stopped the bleeding only after my ex screamed at them about how they can't just leave him sit on the table bleeding! Needless to say I've never stepped back in that office. I also recommend to friends who have birds not to take their fids there. I can understand a mistake with cutting the nails too short. It was a brand new vet tech who did it even though we were promised the actual vet would be seeing Carlisle. Everybody makes mistakes and she handled it calmly, my ex and I were furious with how the vet and the rest of the staff handled the situation. The tech immediately got the vet when Carlisle was bleeding and the vet acted like "Oh well. He'll survive... I've got better things to do like chat on my cell phone!" The front desk people were quite rude too, especially when he refused to pay them for butchering Carlisle. It took almost a week for Carlisle to go back to normal.

I so wish the vet who handles my cats and handled my dog when she was alive was an avian vet too! :( She's so nice and professional. She's easy to get along with and always makes sure we understand exactly what's going on with our pets and puts vet terms into normal people terms lol. She's been our vet for almost 15 years. I always asked too many questions as a kid when I'd go with whichever parent took the pet. "What's this do?" "What's this for?" "How do you know that's what's wrong with him?" My father would always tell me to be quiet.

What are some questions I should ask this new vet? What are things I should look out for? (other than the issues I had with the last vet) They had decent reviews online. When I set up the appointments they were very friendly and professional over the phone. I'm hoping this wasn't all a show just for the appointment. I really want to have a good experience. Both Kayak and Carlisle are going to the vet. I know for sure Carlisle was tested for all the usual things. I've got all his records from when he was at Petsmart. I wasn't able to get Kayak's records from the man I adopted her from. I'm sure I could contact Bird Paradise (where she's originally from) and get her records if they still have them. Kayak was DNA tested female. I think I'm going to have Carlisle tested just to officially know what gender 'he' really is.

Number one question from my perspective is always, "are you a board certified avian vet?".

The birds and I both had a very good experience today. Unfortunately I didn't get to see Dr. Dazen who is a board certified avian vet. The vet I saw was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor which made the visit go by easily with my misbehaving monsters. Both the vet and the tech had pet birds at home which was comforting to know. Neither had seen a Dusky Conure before so Kayak kept getting all the attention because her eyes are so unique. Both birds are in excellent health. The only issue was with Carlisle. He's got a vitamin A deficiency which is the vet said was understandable because he won't eat fresh fruits and veggies like Kayak. She gave me some advice on what to feed him to try to fix that issue. She said that Zupreem mixed with his Roudybush would be a big help. She also recommended some cereals because they're balanced and because he doesn't like "wet and moisty" foods. I should get a call later tonight with the blood work results for both of them and within a week I should have the DNA results for Carlisle to find out whether he's really a he. The vet wasn't sure and said that his pelvic bone was kind of wide, but she wasn't 100% sure.

Overall I'm quite happy with this office. They had a blue and gold who was sitting off to the side in the waiting area saying his name over and over and over and over lol. He was quite friendly and entertaining.

The heathens.
