You can leave the light on for as long as your fid is awake and no other lights affects it. I've read that parrots like it bright and that low light can cause depression or behavioural problems - so switch on as many lights as you please.;) After the expiry date you can still use the light as an ordinary light, it actually gives off a beautiful glow.:D

could u have the light bulb in the light fitting in the room the birds are kept? as in the celing?
also i found that when vincent has his few hours outside when he comes in he seems to have a scent off him after being outside in the sun

I try to make sure Bella has enough outside playtime but I feel like it is never enough & I can't let her out to play during the winter. I will look into getting a light and see what I can order. Thank you for this great post!

Sorry Patterson but no, the light has to be a certain distance from the birds otherwise the UVB rays do not reach them. I have a UVB meter and believe me the UVB rays only goes the distance the box stipulated. It is definitely a VERY complicated light.

A BEAUTIFUL smell - I agree!:D I can sniff Sterretjie all day!

I guess it is the oil on their feathers and the chemical reaction of the uvb that makes that delicious bushveld smell.
