Using an old essential oil diffuser for humidity instead of oil?

Just to let you all know, I'm aware that essential oils are dangerously lethal to birds. Mu mom cleaned out the old diffuser and hasn't used it in about a year. Do you think it would be safe to use?

I cleaned mine till the smell was gone and use it as a personal humidifier next to my Tags cage. I actually bought a neat second small personal humidifier but it didn't change the humidity in my living room much at all though.

I'd give it a good scrubbing just for the paranoia check, especially as you don't know what your mum cleaned it with.
