Using a shower perch in the car

I got a shower perch ages ago when I got Scarlett and on the box there was a picture of a bird happily riding in the car, looking out the window. However, the windows in our car (and all cars??) slope towards the top, and the shower perch leans over and Scarlett can't get any sort of grip on it. Even with the car still she can't hang onto it more than a few seconds. We've only taken her for one longish trip and that was to Sydney (around 2 1/2 hours) and she had to ride on the top of the seat with a beach towel over it (she wasn't toilet-trained at that point). I couldn't sit properly and got lots of aches from constantly twisting around to look at her, check she was fine, and offer her food or water! But in a few days (on thursday) we are going for a much longer trip, for 4 or 5 hours. Does anyone know how to make a shower perch work in a car???? It doesn't grip on tiles either so we can't even use it properly in the shower! (we usually just hold the perch with her in it in the water after we've had our shower so she can move in and out as she pleases). I don't know the brand, but the perch part is light blue with horizontal ridges, and it is all-plastic, and I think it came from My Parrot Shop. Any advice welcome!

Ahhh, the shower-perch. Sadly, my shower/car perch never worked either. You can never be sure about what sticks to what even if the box says so. What I do when I go on long trips, is I put Toulouse (My GCC) In a large, white budgie cage, which I strap into the passenger seat. I leave the door open for her, and she has constant access to food, water, sleep, toys and most of all, SHE CAN POOP! She can go ontop of the cage without me worrying about her distracting me while in the car, and If I need to stop for gas I can put her in her cage momentarily.

I agree with Cass...a travel cage would probably be optimal. When we took my in-laws U2 to them (7 hrs away), we got him into and out of the car via small wire dog kennel. But as soon as we were "on the road" and settled - about an hour into the trip - the door was opened and Popcorn was free to explore the car. He spent the next 6 hours on my lap and shoulders preening me.

If she has enough toys and things to occupy her attention, a travel cage should be fine.

You do not want to put a parrot in a car just on a perch. It is not safe. Best to have them in the back seat in some kind of carrier which is in a seat belt. do I do this? I must admit when Rosie goes on drives with me she is in her clear plastic carrier in the front seat so I can see her and vise versa.

This may be an idea for travel. We always use a flight suit with a tether for Sullivan. He has never wore it for more then a couple hours though.

Sullivan - that is pretty cool. My in-laws plan to travel with their U2 and this looks like a project my father-in-law would love!
