Cricket, my budgie, as pooped and I believe there are crystals in the urates. We are about to contact the vet.

It is only present in a few, but this is still very alarming.

Crystals in urates are microscopic. You would not be able to see them. I think those poops look normal.
Who did that big poop in the upper right? Rico? All look normal to me.
If your budgie had solids in her urine that you could see they would clog up her kidneys. The tiny dark solid flecks are probably from the solid part of her poop. It all gets kind of mixed together before the bird expels it all.

No, no, the urates are sparkly. You can see them.

I can see what you’re referring to. It seems a little unusual. She wouldn’t happen to have a toy or something she chewed on that was glittery, sandy, sparkly?

No, not at all.

No, not at all.
Crystals can form and precipitate out after the urine has left her body and cooled to room temperature. They are less soluble in cool temperatures. This would be a normal thing but if you are concerned bring her to a vet.

Well be able to talk with the vet in a few hours… as of right now, cricket is under close monitoring. I’ve never seen a bird with glittery crystals in their urates. Not once in my almost 4 years of having birds. Once we get ahold of our vet, I’ll update further.

The vet still hasn’t called back…

So, we are still waiting. As of right now, cricket seems to be doing fine, just with the really worrying poop… she’s taking treats, getting gutsier, and still a pushy butt as usual.

My tiel has little specks of glitter that's seen in indirect lighting. They are so small u have to come super close to see them. I only see them when the poos are a little bit watery

Did you ever find out the cause? My tiel has the same issue however his crystals are very small and only noticeable when you come real close and shine light directly on the poop.
Though for him it's only when his pops are more watery. I don't see this in solid poos

So are they uric acid crystals? Someone said they are microscopic so u cant see with naked eye. I'm confused 😕 my tiel has this too buy only in more watery poops. I never see this in his solid poops. Thr poopology chart says the sparkly stuff is renal/kidney damage sign, but I'm also seeing that it's just uric acid crystals and that it's good they're pooping it out instead of storing it in their body which can cause gout. My vet didn't seem concerned but I'm concerned. It's been like this for the oast 3 years. However he has no other signs or symptoms.

If an avian vet isn't concerned you probably shouldn't be either. If you haven't brought him to an avian vet, you should, at least to put your mind at ease.

I addressed it to the vet when I took them for bloodwork which was 2 years ago. But the vet never went into detailed, just didn't seem that concerned. But I didnt really think much of it because the reason I took him was because he was having watery poops. He wasn't eating properly and was losing weight, very hormonal and always nesting. I had to hand feed him sometimes, he would eventually eat but before bedtime. This caused his poops to be watery because he would fill himself up with water. His poops last month were very watery so that's when I noticed the sparkly urates again. But his poops are alot better and more solid after making some changes in his cage. Like filling up his bowl with more food thalen he needs so he can reach better and adding some perches so he can eat on it. He has no problem eating from my hand and tends to eat alot but I don't have time to feed him 4-5 times a day lol. spoiled bird!
I did see your other post on other thread. After reading It I understand it and definitely put my mind at ease. I'm a hypochondriac and I've lost two tiels in the past, so any little sign my birdy gives me anxiety 😬

There's already so much misinformation bout bird's health on the net. My vet always tells me to never google symptoms because it's just gonna make me anxious. I trust your research because of your background. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge us 🙂
