Hey,

I haven't been able to post in so long, been so busy.

I hope everyone is well, hope to catch up soon.

Just wanted to show everyone how Loki has improved, lots more green in his plumage to show off.

haha thanks, those feathers are really coming through nicely.

just got a java tree for him to perch on while in the front room with us. The playstand we had was just too boring, needed some diy. Where is probablyharrison when i need him, he's homemade stuff is brilliant.

I'm horribly procrastinating from uni work, so i better get a move on.

thanks again. Il be sure to be back in a few hours to do some more updating lol

much love

x

So happy to hear your good news on Loki!!! Excuse my ignorance, but what is a Java tree and where do you get it? I like to move Oliver around different parts of the house on a variety of platforms for new experiences during his play time. He loves his playstand and his basket but another something could be fun. Thanks in advance! Oh btw our son is in law school as well so I "get" how busy you are. Best to you and your little family...

Yea a java is a branch table top kinda stand, this is Loki on his. He loved it. Quite content. And being that its on a table you can put it anywhere.

I really want a huge one as part of our living room. There so pretty.

He's so lovely, hope Charlie is okay,

Hope all is well,

Loki looks fabulous (and so do those socks xD)! Glad to hear he's doing well, I've been wondering about him. And haha I'd love to build some more playstands! I feel like I will have much less trouble now that I have a feel for what I'm doing (and using mine and seeing what could have been done better).

If only Loki and Charlie could have a playdate someday. :) Hope to see more of Loki soon.

Looking good and I like the java tree I've got one similar to yours they come in handy

Yea, Jacks socks make a nice appearance in that picture loll. I need to play with some tools, wood and bird toys and see what I can come up with lol.

D'aww it sucks your a million miles away, been to the USA a few times, always Florida though, Atlanta would be nice though.

Florida in September was ace, Halloween horror night at universal was ace lol. Loki would of loved (hated) it lol.

How's Charlie? Getting on well, play date definitely on :D

X

What a beautiful Java stand! Thank you for sharing. I have not seen anything like it in the stores here but I'm going to research further.

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update.

So we are pretty sure Loki is going through us first moult, although he is only 7 months old. Is this something I should be worried about? He's been having nice steam treatments in the bathroom with me to calm his irritation, showers with jack, and no feather petting or touching. He cuddles me, but I don't stroke or anything, he likes to just push himself toward me.

This moult (molt?) does mean he looks beatifully more green, you can see a lot more on his head and lower belly which is brilliant.

He is now always trying to climb onto my shoulder and head? Some say this is for dominance and something I shouldn't encourage, I don't let him on my head, but sometimes allow shoulder for a short while (he's uncomfortable and I love him loll) only sometimes though.

He and Cricket aren't best of friends which sucks, Cricket is quite aggressive and has always been our problem child. Love him to bits but he's showing signs of hormonal boyness lol. He's not very kind with Loki so they have separate play times.

On the whole everyone is fine, yesterday was ace because Loki spent the day on his java, my shoulder, arm while I was doing my uni work and he was good as gold. He was making the most usual noises, I was talking through my reading and he was almost trying to pronounce some little sounds back.

Hope everyone is well, this is a picture from yesterday when he was preening my hair and tickling so bad. I apologise in advance for the mess I look, it was a study day lol

Birds don't work with a dominance structure so I wouldn't worry about that. I'd only allow him to be where you feel comfortable with him being but as long as both you and Loki are comfortable I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed up there every once and a while. Just be cautious because there are risks involved with him being that close to your face if he ever becomes bitey or protective.

Molting small head, neck and chest feathers is normal at his age. The large feathers won't molt until he is a year old (approx). One of my girls didn't start molting her primaries until she was 15 months.

I too have head riders but it doesn't bother me. We each decide what works for us with our birds.

Even though they are itchy and somtimes crabby during a molt, they always look so nice when the new feathers come in. I only trust one of my three near my face. She will scuddle right up my body to cuddle under my chin. I have to watch her because she will try to bite my chin softly and she loves to destroy jewelry.

To be honest I trust him completely anyway on me. I feel we have such a personal bond and i get to learn his behaviour so well.

he's doesn't bite unless your new and scare him, or like nippy at the moment because his feathers.

he's a star. The shoulder doesn't bother me so Il let him up more x

oh also,

I am 21 this year and my best friend is also 21 6 days before me. I've known her for the past ten years and we have always spent birthdays together.

anyway, this year we have just booked three days in EuroDisney as a nice spontanous gift.

before booking I made up plans for Loki. Our neighbour is really good with him and has kindly offered to feed and interact with him. Il set up a diet for the three days, fridge it and she can just pop it in.

we are also doing a test go.

she handles him great and I'm not worried, but is there anything i can do to make this more comfortable for him?

only three days, but i want him to be okay.

any suggestions? Id super appreciate it,

x

I think he'd be okay for 3 days, especially if you know your caretaker's really good with birds.
I suppose just make sure she's able to have him step up and simple handling so he can maybe come out of the cage occasionally. (You might need to just do a bit of training with them before you go)

Loki looks great! And my what a blue eye you have!!!! As for going away, I too am leaving for the first time in a few weeks to a conference and have my concerns. My husband, unlike your neighbor, is NOT comfortable taking Oliver out so he'll be confined for three days which really upsets me. I thought my son could come over and take care of him but he too has a conference for Law Review and will not be here. I thought about boarding him but I fear he'll pick up habits from other boarders and of course nobody there will be picking him up...so he's better off at home. I'll be anxius to hear how Loki does. Happy Birthday Josh!!!!

Hey drlisaort,

Il be sure to get an update on on how he gets on those three days. Thankfully, my phone contract allows me to call abroad so Il be phoning daily to see how he is.

Three days is a long time to not be handled, but then again being at home would be much better for him. Same food, same routine I thought.

I don't know if my neighbour will actually handle him but I know she will spend time with him.

I wouldn't worry too much lovely, three days is a good start for days away. They will enjoy the holiday from us crazy bird people lol.

Thanks, I cant wait to go for a few days for my birthday :) wish I could take Loki with me.

If I was fortuneate to live in Florida I would offer to help when your away,

hope your well x
