Update on Tequila

I'm so sorry to hear what you and your little love are going through. I'm glad you have confidence in Tequila's vet, knowing she is in good hands makes a world of difference. There are no words to make this easier but please know, so many are with you and hoping for the best possible outcome. Hugs and healing thoughts for you and Tequila.

I am sorry Tequila's progress has slowed. Your vet seems skilled and compassionate, so she is in good hands.

How does Tequila respond when you visit? Many vets build a wall of seclusion around ill birds, possibly to guard against a psychological let-down when the parront leaves. If she perks up in your presence, perhaps more frequent visits will be helpful. Thinking of you, hoping for a quick turnaround for both you and Tequila.

I am so sorry to hear of the setback with Tequila. I am so glad that your have such a wonderful vet, and you have sooo many people praying and wishing her a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with you.

It really means so much to me that everyone cares so much. Thankyou.

I went and visited her on my lunch break. Her leg is actually better than yesterday. She still isn't eating though. I suggested maybe I take her home for the weekend. He said that's a good idea. So I have 3 different meds, and shes back at work with me. Still not eating, but she's now preening so she's calmed down.

The vet thinks it may be two separate issues we are dealing with. Tequila has metabolic bone disease, and he thinks her leg issue may be related to that. She also has foreign material in her stomach. She isn't blocked and is passing her poo fine, but it MAY be an issue. So at the moment we are just seeing how she goes. We're hoping she picks up being at home.

I'm very much hoping her spirits will be lifted again while she's able to be at home. Hopefully, by getting her in a positive place mentally, that will enable her body to fight and heal more easily. More good vibes coming your way :).

Thanks everyone.

Update on Tequila. Her leg is more lame than yesterday. They will try a few things and call me later. I really don't like how this is going. I can't deal with this. I feel so sick.

But you are dealing . And Tequila is so lucky to have you. Hang in there you are doing everything you can

Really pleased to hear that you have her back for the weekend and agree with RavensGryf. For her to be back with her mom and calm and loved can only help. Keep trying with the food even if it's yours as she needs nourishment. Any idea re her fluid intake Jess? How about a veggie sloupe? Cross between mash and soup, will she take off a spoon? Plum still reverts back to a baby wanting to be fed at the sight of a teaspoon with food on it. Sending hugs and prayers to you and your baby girl. Stay strong girl, you can be, gosh you are!

She still has a while to go but im so happy with this improvement!

Keep her spirits up during any future vet visits as they do so miss us and this is as important as any treatment given. She may be better in future because she has learned that she went there and came home.

I always ask my Vet nurses for a little time to make up with Plum at the Vets instead of just whisking him into his carrier and into the car. We always spend time being daft and reinforcing our bond and he has always reacted well to having to go back each time.

Oh sorry yes you should be pleased with her improvement, keep it up Tequila x

I never knew how much leaving her at the vet affected her!!
So do you make up time at the vet playing with her or get the nurses too?

She will have to go back to the vet i know that im just not sure if overnight as of yet. It just depends how the material goes in her stomach.

From experience they make a relationship with a nurse all by themselves. Birds know who they like and don't. What I do is spend some time with Plum - I go to collect him from the pods they keep them in. He comes out to me and we spend some time re-bonding, being daft and reinforcing that all is well. Quite amusing one of the times as in a tiny room and the nurse is trying to feed a poorly rabbit and I'm also in there with Plum singing and dancing. Sounds barmy but it works and he isnt stressed. Greets the AV well
also.

Can you leave something of hers she is fond of?

I'm so happy to see this update! I know she still has a ways to go, but it's wonderful to see you have lifted her spirits so much.

Tequila is a beautiful girl! And she seems to be enjoying the heck out of that meal! Keep staying strong, Jess!

Tequila is truly stunning, her colors are spectacular!!

Jess, I assume she was hand-fed, and if so do you know what sort of implement they used?

My hand-fed Goffins were fed with a small spoon that was altered to curve the edges into a "flute" shape. Kept it all these years, and on occasion will "spoon feed" them a smoothie. They absolutely recognize that spoon on sight and just love the special attention. (they are in their late teens and early twenties, so no risk of regression! I don't place it inside the beak, rather they lap it up with their tongues.)

So I wonder if such an implement would spark interest in food if necessary?

You hang in there, you two, but... let me say something from the heart... you and only you can know when it's time to let go. I will support and approve and praise you no matter what. You've shown yourself to be brave and loving and strong. You and Tequila have a bond and you'll decide what's best together. All my love and hugs, fellow parrot-lover!
