So after about a week and a half of forcing my B&G out of his cage I am happy to say he is now squawking everyday to come out of his cage. He also now steps up on command without trying to run away when sticking my arm in his cage to bring him out. :) Proud mom moment :) He is also now starting to eat a little more and has his first vet visit this Thursday to get his nails trimmed and get an exam. His nails are in some desperate need of being trimmed.

So happy to hear of your progress..isn't it awesome when they finally feel comfortable enough to trust you. Do you not cut the nails yourself? I've been working with animals for 25 years in fact I offer a service to people who own birds but can't physically get to a vet due to a handicap. Frustrating at times, and I feel I don't charge enough but at least I am helpful.

It is awesome indeed. I can't wait for him to trust me enough to let me pet him. It's frustrating because when I brought him home he absolutely hated my boyfriend. He would even lunge at him while in the cage and flip out any time my boyfriend would walk into the room. Out of nowhere the other day he stepped up no problem for my boyfriend and was letting him pet him everywhere (and I mean everywhere) and would even put his wing up so he could get scratched underneath. Note that my boyfriend hasn't done anything with him and actually avoided him because of my macaw not liking him up until the other day.

As far as trimming his nails go, I do not. I have had him a month and he is still not a big fan on being touched other than stepping up (aside from my boyfriend now). And they need some serious trimming because they are very bad and have been neglected for a long time by the looks of them.

All in good time I guess, again great progress.

I just took him out and he is letting me pet him. When I went to pet him, he opened his beak and followed my hand and I said no and he just closed his mouth and turned his head and let me pet him and for more than 10 seconds. He lets me keep going until I want to stop

He did amazing at the vet. I think he knows what the word 'vet' means though because when I went to get him out of his cage to bring him, I told him he was going to the vet and it was the first time in over a week that he did not want to come out and started to shake. But after some coaxing he climbed down and stepped up. He was nervous on the car ride there and while at the vet but he did not try to bite once. The vet thinks that he may have been towel trained since he did so well with getting toweled which made me happy if this is the case. I was just happy at how good of a boy he was. :)
