Update on Angus

It does sound like this animal protective group did not treat Angus well either, but don't you think surely some other person would have taken good care of him and they would have bonded? I know some birds can grieve a long time over the loss of an owner, but I adopted 2 in their 20s and they bonded to me quickly; Merlin in particular just loved me immediately.

I was so pleased that Angus was reunited with his owner because the stress that poor bird went through at the RSPCA was clear, the condition he got his bird back in was worse than a ride on the windscreen. Besides the media here in OZ tend to blow things out of proportion most of the time. I also think to many people jump to conclusions as well.

FWIW I know people that ride around with their pet birds on the handle bars of their motor bikes. The kid down the road from me takes his Alexandrine for rides on his BMX bike. The bird actually loves it.

Maybe that was a stupid thing that Justin did with Angus but does he love his bird any more than we do. My guess if he didn't he wouldn't have fought so hard to get him back.

This is appalling!! This poor Bird has been given back to his evil owner!! I have watched the Video and I cannot quite believe what I am seeing :11: If this sort of thing had of happened in the UK then this person would have been heavily prosecuted and banned from keeping any type of Pet for Life!! And Rightly So!!

Hi, Thats a bit too much but I recomend to anyone try your parrot at car rides. Watch them closely at first as some appear to suffer motion sickness. My little girl usualy goes one or more times a day and still begs every time we walk past the car. D.D.

Hi, If I had viewed any video first it would seem there was some over reaction. I realize there are others but on the clip I took the time to view Angus was safer than my little girl with me and her on her bycicle perch. The voice of the keeper sounds mature and safety conscious. I know I have and I imagine most the the other respondants have created more dangerus conditions than the clip I saw posted. If I had viewed that first I would have realized why the bird was quite propery returned. D.D.

This was a very irresponsible thing to do.. He most certainly cannot be called a responsible owner of a Bird!!

The poor Bird was terrified.. I certainly would not call his owner very Mature :11:

Seems my name is mud & i have ruffled a few feathers here for my comments but everyone deserves a second chance & although this happened 12 months ago & from my original post on the matter there wasn't a lot said about it. In fact only 3 members responded so i didn't update when the guy got his bird back. Why the big out cry now. Justin faced court was fined, placed on a good behavior bond & the Judge ordered the bird be given back to him.

From what i have heard he has smartened up his act & is very remorseful for his dumb action.

I have also been looking on Ytube at all the other idiots that ride around on the Motorbikes out on the highway with their parrots clinging to the bars or sitting on shoulders. So i can see where it's possible for someone to get a crazy idea in the first place. Ytube has a lot to answer for I think.

However i think it was irresponsible & stupid & the majority of us wouldn't even think of treating our parrots like this.

I do agree on second chance! As long as he's not doing stuffs like that to Angus anymore then its fine. It don't look like he was mis-treating him other then they stupidity car ride that got him into trouble ....

Sometimes people do grow up. Yes, the internet is littered with videos of people doing stupid things, and we have plenty of TV shows of the same. If you've ever watched Dumbest Stuff On Wheels, you wonder what people are thinking.

Parrots really shouldn't be on motorcycles either. Even at slow speeds there are so many things that can go wrong and they would have no protection in a crash. Bikes slide on gravel, oil, coolant, are subject to bird strikes (wild ones), and anything people throw out of cars. A flat tire or mechanical malfunction can be much more dangerous as well on a bike. Even an insect hitting you at high speeds can hurt depending on what kind it is. A large butterfly can obstruct your entire visor. So there are reasons I have never taken an animal for a ride. I have seen people riding with their dogs and even cats, but I choose not to.

But, the simple fact of the matter is, people DO need to think before subjecting an animal or child to something so dangerous. I am an adult human who can make the choice to ride a motorcycle after weighing the possibilities of what may happen to me. My animals can't knowingly make that choice for themselves. They also do not have helmets, leather coats and pants and gloves and boots to lessen the severity of crash injuries.

Roxy i guess i didn't think to much of it at the time because being a breeder i have heard all the sad sob stories of how clients had lost the previous pet parrot & want's to buy another bird. Talk about irresponsable parrot owner. I know genuine accidents happen but a hell of a lot can be avioded.

Some of the stories i have been told.
Drowning in the toilet,
Washed in the washing machine.
Sat on & stood on.
Dog or cat attack
Bird flying into the fan.
Bird flying into the hot frypan or hot sink water.
Squashed in a slammed door.
Not to mention snakes & hawk attacks.

Thats only a few examples. All of the above birds died & all of those accidents could have been avoided.

I bet you have, Pedro. All of it heartbreaking and as you said, avoidable.

I actually stopped watching the news a couple of years ago because I just couldn't handle stories like this anymore. The one that finally did me in was a woman putting her baby in the microwave.

I really don't know, how I managed to bring up such an old tread... I do know, though, that I wanted to know more about Pedro, because I might want an Eclectus in the future...
