Cream, Cookie and Baby, peach faced lovebirds
So I thought I might get an update, since it's been a while.

I think I'm turning into the lovebird chick. I love them, they're just so precious and hilarious.

Him hanging out with my best friend. He wasn't used to him yet so he wasn't ready to perch on him - but my other friend he gets more friendly around since he was around every week.

Being a little crazy bird is a workout sometimes.

just chillin.

Cream is doing great. He's much more tame with me and seems to enjoy spending time with me. Last month I got him a new friend, a new lovebird named Cookie, who is pied. Here's a pic

Problem is, he has a very different personality from Cream. Cream is very boistrous and adventurous, and even when he just first met me he was a very "me-first" kind of birdie. Cookie is very scared though. He is about 6 months old. Now, he's doing fine and is healthy and all that but he's absolutely terrified of me. After quarantine, I placed his cage near Cream's so both could have attention towards each other, and be exposed to me so he gets used to me and Cream and how things roll around here. However, he is absolutely terrified of me regardless. Even if I move too quickly far from his cage, if its in eyesight he gets spooked. I've had him for about 6 weeks now.

He will come out if I leave the cage door open but he usually goes to play on Cream's cage, which is a problem because Cream is very territorial. So since Cookie is not comfortable being near me at all I can't help if there's an emergency and Cream goes full rage on Cookie, so I've been just trying to make him feel more comfortable at this point, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I want him to feel more comfortable, and he's progressing a lot slower than Cream did, is there any advice to help him feel more comfortable? Is this just a young bird thing?

Hello Rachel! Nice to hear from you! Cream looks fantastic and your new baby is beautiful too.

It's amazing how different two birds of the same species can be. My quakers' personalities are completely opposite.

After six weeks Cookie should be feeling comfortable. It may be that he's intimidated by Cream. Have you tried separating them to work with Cookie. I know you want to have both of them with you, but maybe just temporarily, until Cookie has a chance to get to know you a little better and build some confidence.

Thanks for sharing the update Rachel, and welcome back! Good to see Cream is doing well. Cookie is a little cutie too! Sounds like he's just a little more wild than cream was. Maybe personality differences as well. Just keep nurturing him and he'll come around. Make sure to watch if he seems intimidated or stressed by Cream :).

Oh my goodness they are beautiful! I was considering a lovebird because I love the way they look!!!!

They are amazing companions, and have a ton of personality. For their size they're incredible little things. Cream is like my best buddy I swear I love him.

Anyways, I think I'll try moving Cookie a bit further from Cream, possibly even out of sight. Hopefully that will help relieve some of his tension. He's clearly not ready for stuff yet so I think he just has to get more used to me being around. He hasn't improved much noticeably but I gotta keep trying, he's a very active and beautiful bird and I wanna see what he has to offer.
