Two Lovebirds (Xayah and Rakan)
My two lovebirds, Xayah and Rakan (6/7 weeks old), recently started to learn to fly and also got moved into a cage. They both also seem to be eating on their own nicely. Now, everytime I get them out of the cage they have a thing for being on top of my head and nibbling on my ear. What does this particular behavior suggest? They both also try to get out of the cage whenever I walk past it... I don't know if that may also help.

could be a bonding/preening behavior

Agreed, it's friendly, but also a little bit dominating. Many here will recommend not giving a bird access to your head until you've established reasonable obedience and step-up an and non-biting and just a general routine.
Doggone it, it *IS* cute, though!

It suggests 2 parrots who are being allowed to set the rules, instead of the other way around. Most times they do a bad job of it. People need to set nurturing guiding rules , so that all live loving companionships.

How would one approach setting rules and such?

It sounds like to me they love being on your head and enjoy exploring! And ears are fun things to explore! Nothing about dominance or trying to "overrule" you.

If you don't want them chewing on your ears, then what could they chew on instead?

If you don't want them flying on your head, then where could they fly to instead?
