Gotta love em :) ….. I just had to share with my very own 'parrot-lovin-family'.

Guy 1: So how much are B&G’s going for these days?

Guy 2: $10,000-$15,000…

Me: Errr, you can buy them for between $7000 and $8000. (lol)

Guy 2: Oh, well the price must have come down a lot since I was looking then. How much are Black and Green Macaws then?

Me: Hmmm, theres no such thing as a black and Green Macaw…

Guy 2: Ah, yes there is…

Me: Nah, I’m pretty certain there isn’t.

Guy 2: There is, I have seen them on the internet. My friend has one and I have seen the breeding pair. I was going to buy one.

Me: (LOL) Yeah? Nope, there is no such thing.

AND in the same hour…..

Guy: Oh so you have a bird then?

Me: I sure do (*beams*). I have 2!

Guy: What Rosella’s or something?

Me: No, I have a Quaker and a Sun Conure.

Guy: (blank)

Me: I have a fetish for South American parrots. They are brilliant.

Guy: (puzzled) why don’t you just get a big white Cocky or something?

Me: Why would I? I have Corellas, Galahs, Cockys and Lorikeets in my garden daily by the dozen, and better still they nest in the park down the street… They are free and happy, and that is the most beautiful thing in the world to me. I can live with these extraordinary creatures in ‘their’ world! (starts to get goosebumps- feel the passion start to flow lol) :)

Guy: Oh…. (blank) Anyway…. Blah blah my grandkids blah…..

Oh man. I hope neither of those people get parrots! LOL

Sounds sort of like someone I was recently talking to, who said he's "always wanted one of those talking gray Amazon parrots." :11:

That I thing is the most comon reason for all that rehoming, getting a perrot for wrong reason

must be amazin to see and live with all them wild parrots!!! an lol when ever i tell ppl nut needs her out of cage time, they always look at me as if i am mad! and assume my house is covered in poop

Oh, it's so crazy my family always wants me to sanitize my self when I come over because they say I'm handling the birds and they are pooping everywhere b/c I let them out of their cages...I try to educate them that they do not belong in cages 24/7.....it's frustrating though!

I'm always telling people about how birds need a lot of attention and out-of-cage time and a lot of the time they seem surprised. I just tell them that in nature they are pretty much never alone, because they're with their flock, so it's unnatural for a bird to be left alone for hours at a time. That usually gets through to them. :)

I like to educate people about birds, but I don't want them to fall in love with birds before having an idea of what they would be in for if they got one. "Yes, he does bite sometimes." "He's happy right now, but sometimes he has mood swings and bites." "Don't worry, I can tell by his body language if he might bite." "Don't worry, that means he likes you!"

Spot on!!! I'm exactly the same ;) I might even be a little too protective over our darling companions lol.

I have been asked what kind of birds I have. I glowingly replied that I have two green cheeks and proudly showed pictures. I was told that I must be mistaken about their species beacuse, as the name implies, all green cheek conures have green cheeks and dark beaks.....Rio is a pineapple and Kai is a cinnamon sided.......SMH......

I want to know why adults always want to stick their fingers in the cages, or play with the bird toys.

A neighbor came over yesterday and the first thing he did was stick fingers in the amazon's cage. Bird growled and showed signs of biting, so he pulled back out. I told him he should never do that, especially when he first meets a bird.

I am also forever having to tell people to please leave my birds alone! They scare them! My friends IRN , Ridge, will come to you if he feels like it, if you try force him he's gonna bite the living daylights outa you!

I'll post some backyard parrot pics! ^_^ Taken from a friends house, as I don't have a backyard lol! These are the kind of parrots that we get around here, Rosella's, king parrots, lorrikeets! Cockatoo's, galahs, corella's! Even seen a few black cockatoo's out in the bush :) (plus other beautiful non parrot birds like kookaburra's, blue fairy wrens etc) Some of the wild birds will come right up to your hand. A wild cockatoo even comes and taps on my friends window when he wants attention lol!

Thats a good idea actually! I'm going to get snapping and see what photos I can come up with of our feathered locals!

EDIT: Actually while going through some photos on my computer I found some older pics of local birds as well so I'll make a new thread :)

Oh my goodness, it erks me when people try to go against what im saying..

i was at a pet store once and i had about 6-7 toys in my hand and i was heading for the checkout line, a employee came up to me and asked what kind of bird i had, i replyed with a green cheek conure. Then he told me that i was buying to many toys for a gcc and he said they are very shy birds that dont like toys...????

we were passing the bird cages while i was fuming telling him that he was extremely wrong and GCC'S go through toys like crazy and are very active, when he stopped me and said well it sounds like he is just stressed from being in a small cage all day long(i never even mentioned the cage) and he said i needed to buy a more appropriate one for a gcc. he then suggested that i get this cage for my GCC

OOH I WAS MAD. i then explained that that cage was small even for a budgie. and that my gcc was in a cage 5 times larger than that already.

i didnt even buy the toys.. i couldnt stand being in there any longer.....

LOL! That's pretty funny. And terribly ignorant. :[

Too bad there's not a black and green macaw. That somehow looks awesome in my mind... -imagines- HAHA!
