Two years later and I made an aweful discovery about Ember's former vet.

You're right. I will have to see if I can find my local equivalent. I posted this information here as a sort of warning for any other Canadians on this forum. Hoping to prevent another situation like this. The more I can get the word out the less likley this is to happen to anyone else. I know I've seen a few bad reviews about other animals in the same clinic. So I may try to reach out to those people as well

I am very sorry for your loss and awful experience.

I hope venting and hearing from others will hopefully ease your pain a little.

It really did. Thank you for listening. I just want to keep people far from that clinic with their birds.

there was one moment that stuck out to me, someone else brought their tiel in for a spay procedure as she'd been eggbound twice on passive eggs. And the owner wanted to protect her birds life. I'm almost certain she was disappointed that day.

It's hard for us to listen to our gut, when seeing a doctor human or animal. I hope your post helps ithetes listen to that inner voice. We have had other posters who weren't happy with their care, but kept going to the vet and thenost their bird too. Sometimes nothing could have been done regardless, but something an avain vet would have made all the difference.

I took my sick bird to an avain vet with many years of experience, I was told my bird wasn't sick, I also said she was thinner, but I was told she was a normal weight. She smelled like yeast, and vet agreed. But said yeast was just in feathers. I insisted on tests spent six hundred dollars, was given a spray for feathers that could have caused my bird to go blind. I sought help here and from an avain vet freind. My bird did have a yeast infection inside. She gained back 11 grams!! Over ten percent of her body mass!!! I felt my avain vet was interested in money only, infact at the time I said I wasn't satisfied, that I thought she was sick, even though vet didn't. They gave me an estimate for 1000 bucks if I wanted to do more testing!!!!! This vet was an avain specialist! But her staff were just trained by her no schooling no certification, and she did labs in house!! By untrained staff!!! A yeast infection in the GI is easy to diagnose by a fecal slide, and easy and cheap medicine is available to treat!!!!
So it's important to use judgment even when seeing an avain specialist........ Ok so I added my rant to yours ;)

NO worries about that. That's a horrible situation. Glad you found someone to clear it all up in time. The fact that people exploit peoples pets for money is infuriating lately.

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.

Thank you for sharing.

These are useful resources. I remember you sent me a list like this when I was having troubles with the guy. I hope to leave this as a warning about the vet himself. But I'll be certain to screen my next vet with far more care on the next bird. For now, we won't be getting another one until we move out of this aweful apartment.
