A quick (perhaps silly) question for you guys. I've cracked open chicken eggs to find two perfectly formed yolks. I would assume if the eggs had been fertilized then they wouldn't have enough room/nutrients for two chicks anyways so it would never hatch, but is it possible for this to happen with parrots? Where two yolks form? I would think candling would reveal this, but have any of you seen or heard of this happening?

Interesting topic. Don't know much about it, but it's a interesting thing to think about- twin birds.

@Mekaisto- is it just possible for there to be double embryos that will die before hatching or can both chicks actually form and hatch?

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't think it possible for both chicks to develop and hatch, there would be fewer nutrients, space, oxygen and warmth for two chicks in the same egg. The embryos might grow to a certain size, but I doubt they'd survive to hatching.

Well there you go!
After a bit of googling it seems that it is an infrequent, but possible situation. More often than not the birds do not survive, but there are a few recorded instances where both birds go on to lead normal, healthy lives.

Interesting! I would think they would both be half sized, and grow up smaller than usual if they both live?
