The Alex was named Buddy and he followed me every where. As soon as I walked into the aviary he stepped straight onto my arm and would not get off. He was talking up a storm and dancing and even regurgitating for me. He was a previous family pet who could not care for him anymore so he ended up here. There was about 5 other Alex's so he had a little family.

It was the first time I had held a adult macaw. His name was Eric and I did not realise how heavy they are. Given that Bundiibird and Millie are only 210gm and 330 grams respectively. He landed beside my dad and wanted to step up but my dad was to scared. He was like look at the size of that beak - no way. He was great - stepped up nicely, took a walnut from me and let me scratch his head.

All in all it was a great day. I do have some more pictures that I will upload when I have better phone reception.

That looks like such a fun day Amanda :). I think Buddy must have known you were an Alex person! I wish there was something like that where I live.

It must have been fun holding a macaw for the first time. I hear macaws are unusual to see in Australia?

Julie we live about 1300km away from here. But there is something similar about 300km away from where we live.

I am sure Buddy knew. We just clicked. If I did not have to fly home, I would have asked about adopting him. I may still yet get in contact with them.

Macaws are definitely unusual in Australia. There was only the 3 macaws at the centre. I have held a baby when we were at the breeders picking up Millie but not an adult.
