Tree Stands

Treated is a DEFINITE no-no!!! Not even meant for use inside a home

No offense Mara, but I got all my wood from my Breeder friend, she assured me the process I employed was fine. She has OVER 200 birds (quite a few rescues as well), she has a degree from Cornell Univ. in avian biology & more AVA certs than I can count including disease control. I trust her implicitly.

It's a risk you may take trusting you friend, but not every one has a friend like that, so I would not advise it for some one else to do. It its way to dangerous to take a chances.

"Driftwood Driftwood is not recommended for a few reasons: 1. There is no certainty for the average person about the tree genus. 2. The ocean water environment contains organisms not to mention every kind of animal waste in addition to residue from ships. It is an uncertain environment. 3. Driftwood can have high salt content. Imagine all the crud that embeds into that wood."

Bird; Birds: Safe, Toxic Trees, Woods. Safe Tree Wood. Parrots. Parrot cages.

Which is why it was brought home, drenched in vinegar & water, scrubbed down & sun dried for another 2-3 weeks

Yes, but if it is toxic drenching and scrubbing it will not change that fact that the wood is toxic. I'm not trying to attack you or anything, which is the vibe I'm getting form you. You made your stand from drift- obviously your birds are okay and your driftwood stand is normal, but for some one else who is not a tree expert and just follows any advice they need to take caution. Not ALL driftwood is safe. No matter how much you scrub and wash. Wood will still be wood. If I scrub an elderberry branch it will still be toxic and still be an elderberry branch.

Not really a tree perch but this is a quick picture of what Mac plays on.

Now that's a cool play gym !!!! Very different then the norm that's out there.
Was it a reconstruction of a non bird object or was it constructed for him ?
I think when they are home made , they are much nicer then store bought.
Wen I have the time , I plan on making my own.......when I have the time :/

Mac Macaw is such a lucky Macaw :)

We built this specifically for Mac!! We're working on a new plan for his next play perch.

The perches only last so long and they start deteriorating or the birds get bored with the configuration.

Nice ideas on that one !! MaraWentz made a really nice one too herself. Ok , her hubby helped a little :) , lololol
What did you use to make the Frame of it that's curved ? it looks like sisal wrapped around it. Is it PVC ? I reminds me of those egg chairs that swival or whatever they are called , lolol.

Ok I finally got pictures of my playstand! It's not very large (24"x24"), but they seem to like it.

I added food/water dishes and more toys afterwards too.

EDIT: Here's a picture of the playtop Bella and Zora rarely use. They prefer me as a playgym. ;) And I'm sorry if the tray is dirty, I cleaned it right after this picture was taken. (A family member was watching them for 2 days while I was on vacation, this is how it was when I came back. )
