Hi guys I just bought my budgies a new cage and I wanted to turn their current cage to a budgie and perhaps cockatiel flight. It is a rather large cage but my concern would be the budgies fitting through the bars? This is what the page looks like with the macaws inside.

As you can see it is rather large. Would a Quaker be an option? I know they are much larger and can be aggressive.

Any other suggestions? Thanks

Very cool cage! Do you mean to buy budgies to put in it or do you already have them? If you already have them just put them in and see if they can get out? haha Otherwise i had my Barraband in a large cockatoo cage (looks similar width bars) and he could get his head out but no way was he escaping. He is a bit bigger than a budgie though.

Sorry I meant I bought my macaws a new cage lol. I don't have budgies. I was thinking that I can turn this cage into a aviary. I'd hate to buy a few keeps and have them fly away. I'm thinking lovebirds or tiels or Quakers. I'd like the budgies though due to their varied colors. Perhaps a few english with Australian would work.

You could always just run some mesh around it just in case. Especially if it's destined to be outdoors, will also keep sparrows, mice and rats etc out.

The mesh would kind of defeat the purpose as far as visibility don't you think? I can always bring them in at night. What I just thought of was the door. Anytime I open it they can get away since it's so big :-(

Your gonna have to use mesh due to the bar space being too wide!!!!

No you wouldn't need thick mesh, you would still see just fine. What you can do with the door is drape shade cloth or something over the door so when you open it you can reach in to change food etc without them escaping.

:)My Budgies seem to love playing in/on the big cages. YES, they can squeeze their whole body right out of the one inch bar spacing. I was surprised! At least the one that is not overweight can :)

I think the Blue Quakers are very pretty. I've heard they make great loving pets if raised and trained properly (as with any species). Besides, since you have experience with the Macaws I know you can handle a Quaker! :)They're illegal to have in CA where I live, so I don't hear much about them other than people who have them on forums. I HAVE seen them here in CA though - being sold at a bird mart:11:, and one boarding at a store labeled "conure".

Sorry to go sort of OT, but since he suggested a Quaker :) I think maybe it's a nice idea for a smaller bird.

I'm interested to see what you end up with!:D Wow you have gorgeous Macaws!

Thanks for the advice guys. How many Quakers can I have living peacefully in this cage?

Eh guys what size mesh should I get and where can I urchase it?

Unless a bonded pair, I wouldn't put more Quaker than one. He'd be very happy to have a nice huge cage with the luxury of having room for a boing, or other accessories which take too much space for a "normal" sized cage for a Quaker.

...or, again how about that group of small colony birds like Budgies? I love the Budgies. Cute little guys that are fun to watch, so many beautiful mutation colors out there, but the drawback to me is their constant chattering/singing/noise making that becomes like nails on a chalkboard, but most people probably don't mind. I love my two anyway :)

I'm not sure how to go about with the mesh. I'm sure others can give good advice on the conversion. Good luck with the project, and on deciding what species you'd like to add. It's a far cry from your large Macaws that's for sure!

Hi there - what a great idea. I see you live in Florida. You should have no trouble getting a nice black bird net, used to keep birds away your berry plants. It will not ruin your view at all. Try Home Depot, Lowes or Wallmart. They also sell it on Amazon [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Dalen-BN2-14-Foot-Bird-X-4-Inch/dp/B000BQ81A4/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1390400527&sr=1-1&keywords=bird+x+netting]Amazon.com: Dalen BN2 14-Foot by 14-Foot Bird-X Net 3/4-Inch Mesh: Patio, Lawn & Garden[/ame]
