training a scarlet macaw.. where to begin??

Thanks :D I've already made him 2 toys and hopefully he will play with them. And tomorrow i will try some of the things you told me to try. :) if i have any more questions i will be sure to ask since the ppl on this forum have been so forthcoming and helpful. I dont know anyone who owns a parrot of any kind so Im glad i found this place. :)

I do wish i had the right mind to start this along time ago :)
What is important is that you are now doing it, have had more skills than you realized before and are not intimidated by him. You two are going to have such an enjoyable life together. I am happy for you. :smile009:

Couldn't have said it any better... EXACTLY.

You can attach an image to your reply by clicking the yellow button above the texting area (looks like a mountain with a sun). You will need an actual URL of the photo, so you can either upload it to another photosharing website (facebook, photobucket) and use the URL that way.

It worked!! Hello Boomer!! Scarlets are great. How is he doing with everything, how has training been going?

Well i no longer have to have his chew stick with me when i take him out the cage and Ive been able to pet him without having to have his stick. i think he is naturally not a touchy touchy bird but Ive got him to let me scratch his head. Ive always been able to pet him and do things with him but it was his toy stick that truly had the trust.. not me. That's why i always had to have the stick. Im glad i had some people on this forum to help guide me in gaining his trust. Im sure there's more work to accomplish with his trust but i am glad at where we have gotten. I did stop keeping up with some training because of family issues this past year but now that things are remotely settled i can start working with him more each day since my living arrangements have changed (for the better).
