Four Parakeets
My two parakeets love to stay in their cage (although I do encourage them to come out, and they do spend time outside the cage regularly). But, they never seem happy. I see videos online of playful budgies, and mine just do not seem playful. They will chill outside the cage on my finger and eat millet, but if I try to bring out a bell for them to play with, they have no interest.

So, I am looking for some toy ideas for inside and outside the cage! I am getting a much bigger cage for them in a couple weeks since they love staying in so much, and I will need more toys for it.

They love pumice, and seem to like shredding toys (they have scratched off the outsides of their coconut toys, and have ripped paper out of the shredding toys I buy).

Any ideas? Thank you!

Oh and what are your favorite perches? I currently have a rope perch, a wooden perch (not a dowel... it looks like a twig but I bought it), and a rougher textured perch. Thanks again!

My 2 are kind of the same. They do love this cheap bell toy I found on Amazon but play with it inside their cage. They LOVE swings of all kinds. Mine haven’t really found joy in foraging toys or shredders yet. They have a coconut toy they love but my suspicions are that I have a boy and a girl so the coconut has been moved to the tree stand in hopes it does not become a nesting site. Their cage is big, 32”wx20”dx30”h so they soend a lot of their day when in the cage happily hopping around fro place to place, eating veggies and chattering. I have foot toys in the cage. I have yet to witness them playing with them. They do get moved around the cage but I think that is an accidental result of their daily antics in the cage. Do you have a play stand/tree stand for them? Time on that is how they best love spending their outside cage time. Perches: have pretty much the same assortment as you, perhaps a few more though. 1 dowel, 3 stick perches, a manzanita perch, a sandy perch and a rope. I also have a flat wood perch about 3”x6”

A gym area in their "outside" area, consisting of a stand and few of their favorite type toys. One's they like to play with, toss, or chew. Introduce them and leave them there when the birds go to cage. jh
