Hi everyone,

Tell me, what's your birds Favorite toy?

What's the most usual toy you ever made or bought for you Bird?


My birds Favorite toys are toddler ( 0-2 year olds) leather Sneakers/shoes.

They chew for hours on them. My Zon has a thing with this chew ball, and plays with that. Wooden Buttons ( That resemble the buttons on my shirt)
that come in one inch to 3 inch in size from hobby shops or "Michaels" are good and you can string them together with leather rope. Provides hours of fun. My Zon has a square box puzzle with many different shapes, she tries to put the blocks in the right holes but gets annoyed and mad when they won't go.....hilarious to watch. My Grey likes to hang upside down or on his back and play with a wadded up paper ball....goes mental playing with that. Likes to play catch. My Senni loves to chew up Corks from wine bottles after their washed and dried. Never ingest them, likes to take them over to his water dish and Soak his Cork.

Kiwi LOVES baby rattles, especially the kind with plastic keys. He's also quite fond of beads and buttons (large enough not to swallow of course). He's also an expert at solving those rather complex acrylic foraging toys. $40 on a "puzzle" toy and he's figured it out in 15 minutes but he does really seem to enjoy them so we have a rather large collection. His weirdest "toy" he just adores is toothbrushes. We cut off the bristle part and sterilize the handle when they wear out and give them to him. Those are his favorite!

Marley my OWA still is shy and getting accustom to his new home and doesn't really play atal yet! I'm starting to buy him toys so il let you know when he chooses his fav

would you think Zons would like similar toys or its all down to individual birds?

After buying multiple items for Doodle, she picked up a piece of cellophane wrap off a pkg and went to town on it! I tied her favorite string to it and shes a happy camper for hours....when it dont crinkle anymore she squakes at it and tosses it, crazy bird!

For my RB Cockatoo, it's wood, wood, and more wood. I just cut plain pine blocks in large and small chunks, drill a hole in each, and string them on large stainless skewers. He chews pine into toothpicks like he's getting paid to do it and is the most dedicated employee on staff! He ignores most store-bought toys in favor of his plain pine, but PS sells one wood toy he would chew one a day of. Sometimes I do give him those when I haven't had time to spend in the wood shop making his wood.

For my Grey, it's a bell, he, also, hangs upside down from the top of his cage, holds the chain in his foot and rings that stupid bell for HOURS every evening, during prime time TV. During the day, he's a paper chewer, so I string colored construction paper, paper boxes (stuffed with paper shreds and treats/nuts/toys) on stainless skewers. He also really likes those hallow plastic bears and other animals. I stuff those in this big (macaw size) stainless foraging toy and he really enjoys chewing those to freedom. I buy the animals in bulk and that toy lasts a really long time.

Both the big birds have every foraging toy sold, which I rotate, and fill with their regular diet, along with the occasional high-value treat. Keeps them guessing. ;-)

My lovebirds like plastic porcupine balls, so I buy them in bulk and refill their old toys with those and pieces of balsa and colored paper.

My parrotlets are all about swings, so we have all kinds (they each have three types in cages at all times): boing, trapeze, and regular swing.

This is a great thread. Buddy doesn't play, I've been working with him to coax him to play. Venus on the other hand, she is into everything so I've been putting together some toys for her and buying some. She loves bells, today I stuffed a whiffle ball with shredded paper, she's picked it up and tossed it. I'm looking for wood blocks now to see what she and Buddy will do with those.

Both of my birds absolutely ADORE balsa, cork, and paper of any type. I actually buy the craft balsa at Michael's and place it in their cages like you might a 2x4 for macaws, and they go to town on them.

Avery isn't much of a chewer as she is a crazy Amazonian woman who likes to yell her battle cries while pecking at a toy. If I buy her 10 toys, I can cycle through them for almost a year before any of them get destroyed... but because I love buying/attempting to make them toys, I just shuffle them into Shiko's cage and they get demolished. He's a total chewer! He LOVES hollow plastics and the paper cups you fill up with ketchup or mustard. He also loves hard acrylics, and his current favourite toy is my glasses... the bugger. He'll pull them off my face and attempt to fly away with them. Thankfully they're too heavy and he never gets far!

would you think Zons would like similar toys or its all down to individual birds?

Good question....personally I take my birds to the Avian store and let them pick their own toys...you then get an idea of what they are really attracted to then go from there.

My Grey has destroyed every bell that's made out there in a heart beat....so I bought one of those heavy duty cow bells.....mistake!! Now at bed time he bangs that thing for 4 to 5 minutes knowing it gets my attention....silly little sod.

paper in a whiffle ball....that's a good idea...I might try that myself as my grey loves chewing up paper and playing with the ball.

Robin's all time favorite is plastic chains.

Twigs (budgie) loves the soft balsa wood, that seems to be his top favorite toy. Also loves dinging bells.

Raven and Griffin seem to have a wide variety that they love equally. One toy in particular was such a hit, that they both worked on it for HOURS on end... Didn't even come up for air or to eat It was this... FM731 Fun Max Groovy Pizza Small *NEW* - FUN MAX-ZOO MAX they especially loved the cardboard part. It looks flat in the picture, but it's actually corrugated and was maybe an inch thick if I remember? They need the bigger one so that it lasts. I'll have to buy one again, but I hesitate because like I say, they can go at it literally all evening long without eating or doing anything else! On one hand that's good though I guess . Keeps Griffin out of trouble!

Hawk, have you seen the bell called Indestructibell? It's made by Lucky Bird. Foster&Smith carries it. It looks like it would take quite a bit of Grey abuse. It's a traditional bell incased in clear acrylic with holes so the sound can still be heard (oh, goodie ). For my Grey, he likes the pipe-type bell with clanger. The good news is they're probably safer and harder to tear up; the bad news is they work forEVER.

It's a traditional bell incased in clear acrylic with holes so the sound can still be heard (oh, goodie ). For my Grey, he likes the pipe-type bell with clanger. The good news is they're probably safer and harder to tear up; the bad news is they work forEVER.

LOL. The swing I bought for Kiwi's cage came with some heavy-duty stainless "pipe" bells attached you'd need bolt cutters to remove (so I left them on figuring they're safe). They're the first bells I've ever given him and boy does he like ringing them I don't think a HY could remove them, so they will definitely last FOREVER:52:

When I first got Sassy she would not play with anything, especially if it was new. Now she is the first to destroy any toy I give her. I barely get it hung up before she is chewing it up.

All of my flock like the cat ball toys with the little "ball" inside. It takes them about 30 seconds to get the little ball out, but they still have fun. Wine corks are another favorite. Sassy likes to chew on my crocs (shoes). I washed an old one and gave it to her. Peanut likes paper/cardboard/tissue paper...anything like that. I also made her a toy out of strips of fleece. I tied the strips onto baby links and when I come home from work she will have untied most, if not all, of the strips...so then we start over. (Hey, if she's chewing on that she's not chewing on her feathers, right) Cisco likes anything that makes noise and baby links or plastic chain. They also like caps from bottles. I drill a whole in them and string them up. I work in dietary in a nursing home so I have an endless supply of "toy" parts.

No I haven't ...sounds great. I had my grey outside and he likes to hit the wind chimes with his beak....Likes things that make noise.
