Hi
Does anyone have any recommendations on good household objects to put in my caiques cage? I am spending a fortune on parrot toys and there must be plenty of objects around the home which they would enjoy and which are safe.... I am new to owning birds and my caiques are super playful and adorable

My caiques want whatever is in my hand as a toy. I let them have household objects like

Plain brown paper bags
Wooden clothes pegs (unpainted)
Plastic spoons from take aways
Ditto wooden chopsticks
Loose buttons - sometimes sewn on old ( clean) facecloths
Colourful pieces of previous parrot toys they have broken
Plastic caps off soft drinks (a favourite)
etc etc

My best friend has a Caique and he's always been content with little foot toys. He'll lay on his back and play with them. They're pretty inexpensive. Random things from around the house also amuse him. I know my Sun likes to play with plastic bottle caps. I have to keep my bottled drinks away from him or he'll try to steal the cap before I'm finished with the drink. At work when I have to throw away drinks that have broken open or leaked or expired I always take the caps. My manager looks at me like I'm nuts when I load a bag up with them. I also do that with plastic neckbands for my cat. He loves the crinkling noise they make and will carry them around the house. It's amazing how animals (and kids) would rather play with 'trash' than expensive toys.
