The reason I will never own one of these things! They are just so disgusting but it's clean as it is going it get right now since both of us gave up after doing the walls and floor:52:

Can't wait till the attachment off the house is done for them. Should be easier to clean if they build it right!

My sister had about 6 of them as a teenager. They lived outside but those are the nastiest birds ever. Food and poop every where.

Nice aviaries

Wow. I think you might've knocked toucans right off of my dream birds list. That's just insane!

Do you know if aracari toucans are as bad with the mess?

Those are some beautiful aviaries! These pics were taken at the shelter?

And are there any close pics of the toucans, themselves?

Assuming that's what they mean when they say toucans "shoot poop"? Cleaning up after 'normal' birds is bad enough! A giant "NO THANKS" to that mess! I wonder how toucans ever ended up in the pet trade in the first place after the first few owners realized what a pain they were mess-wise. Do they have any "redeeming qualities" like a sweet personality or cute noises that would make up for the mess?

I so remember that mess! We had a Toco Toucan several years ago, and he would actually aim straight at us and squirt us with poop. He was awesome, but I sure don't miss that.
I'd also love to see close up pics:)

I'm sure you don't! The question is, did THAT miss you? ROTFL! (You know I'm picturing the bullet dodging scene from Matrix right now, right? Lol!)

His name was Robo, and he never missed. Never.
We learned to dodge but were never fast enough. Where is Neo when you need him to teach you how to do that move???

Haha I always laugh when someone says they want one and I'm like you really really don't:p

Food for the monsters and other softbills in the house.

And some pics of them.

And yes the aracaris are just as bad....he aims for this one area. I'm pretty sure he has a vendetta against this section of the wall...

Thank you for the pics, Victoria! Actually, those do make me miss our guy...well, the pics of the birds do:)

Friends had a Toucan. He stated that the Toucan was a real sweetheart, she used very different words. They are separated now, and now I understand why! WOW!

Wow that's awful! I suppose if you feed them properly. I know a store with a resident Aracari who isn't messy, but he only gets dry softbill food.

I sometimes joke with Raven that he's an 'outdoor' animal lol. He has a pile of dandruff, poop, and feathers under him. Whenever I feel that way I'll just look at these pics!

Yeah without the fruit I can imagine they wouldn't be as bad but fruit is very important to these guys.

I do have to agree the good thing about them is you appreciate that the mess of your own parrots isn't nearly as bad!

I'll count my blessings because our toucans really aren't that messy! They do of course have the super watery poop, but they never shoot it and tend to only go in the same 2-3 piles throughout their aviaries, making for fairly easy cleanup. Those pictures make me want to thank our toucans!

There is a lot of upkeep and dietary needs involved with them, but they definitely do have a lot of redeeming qualities. In my experience, they are very playful and enjoy learning tricks. I will say Fruit Loop is the grouchiest of our toucans (so naturally she's the one I'm responsible for ), and even she loves playing "catch" with blueberries, will let me hand feed her and has even started trying to feed them to me. They can't scream and don't vocalize nearly as loud as parrots and I actually enjoy their vocalizations. It's peaceful to me, like crickets chirping. And one of the nicest things about them is their inability to bite like a parrot. Keel-bills can do the most damage since they have serrated bills, but even their bite is nothing compared to any parrot IMO.
