Will someone please name their next bitey female parrot Morganna or Circe or even Margaret Thatcher (this last one could be a bitey parrot of indeterminate sex)?

Thank you!

Lol. I wish we could have picked our birds names, unfortunately they all know their names and say them. I love the ones you have, so cute!

I didn't name her. I'd have given her a girl's name! But, she knows it, so I'm stuck. I will probably change the spelling though to a more feminine version.

There are quite a few Kiwis here as well, but in the human population you see this as well. One year I had just one class with 5 boys named Jason. And toward the end of my teaching career my classes were filled with Nicks, Zachs, and Brittanys.

lol you leave old iron knickers outta the names!!!

nothing wrong with merlin/merlina :)

I reaaaaaaaally want to change Merlin's name but it just feels wrong to do so... everyone knows him as Merlin and my dad now calls him 'Merl' (hah).

It's a pretty typical name for a bird and I do regret it because I just don't like it for MY Merlin. Oh dear.

I think Grey's especially are one of the top 'Merlin's because of the whole Grey robe type thing, implying the wizard.

If anyone wants to throw some name suggestions my way, feel free. I'm terrible at it. :)
He's a male sennie for any people that don't know ^^

If an animal knows it's name when I get it, I just keep it. The only time I changed one was because it was a male horse named Belle. And I don't think he knew it anyway. I haven't heard Merlin say her name, but when I say it to her she yells, "Whoo!" She also likes being called Merloony and Loony Girl.

That's adorable!

Merlin doesn't really 'know' his name, he just responds when someones talking 'at' him, so I think I could get away with changing it no harm done.

I agree if they know it then it's best not, unless there's a good reason (abuse and they flinch at the name etc).

I swear I'm gonna struggle when I eventually have kids, xD

If I had a son I was going to name him Logan. Maybe Merlin would like that name? I'm a little too old now, so I know I won't be using it:)

Rowdy talks about herself in the third person. She will say things like, "Oh, Rowdy, you are such a pretty girl!" And then flip her head like a conceited teenage girl. My other conure also talked about herself in the third person.

I don't think Pete knew his name, which was surprising after 28 years. But, I didn't change it thinking he did. Now he answers to Petey though.

Yes, I considered adopting a bird named "Bird". I thought that was horrible and probably would have changed it. And if someone gives their animal a racist name or something else offensive I would change it no matter what.

I LOOOOOVE the name Morganna, tell you what enjru, if my new baby CAG is a girl, that will be her name, even if she isn't bitey :)

When I take in a bird, if it does not know its' name, I give it another. If it does, I either use it, or change it slightly. Like I took in a Conure named "Kinko", and I renamed it "Kiko". Or "Kooky" became "Kabuki".

It does seem to be a common name for Grey's lol, I always thought that a male would be cool to name Gandalf the Grey haha

It's a character from the Lord of the Rings series lol, I usually try and choose names from favourite books movies or tv shows

My husband is a huge fan of the name Merlin. He keeps saying he wants to name something Merlin. I let him call a stray cat that was hanging around outside for a while Merlin lol. I'm sure some pet somewhere in our furture will get that name.

I felt kind of guilty about changing Puck's name when I got him, especially since he says it, but I absolutely couldn't stand it. His previous owner named him BUCKY! I figured that the name Puck fits his personality, and isn't very far from his original name. I just pretend he is saying "Pucky" instead. =D
