Just an update I'm letting Duke be flighted for now and going to see how it goes. I'm use to keeping my birds clipped but why not experiment this go around?
Sweet! I'd advise that you begin his training in a small room, like a bedroom or something, that can be closed off. That way he starts off in a controlled environment. Having (at least) two training perches for this purpose is the best case scenario. Once you have him flexing his flight skills with confidence within the confines of that room, you can take his training to the next stage within the larger context of the rest of your house/apartment.
I find that using the smaller, controlled environment first is key.
